Light, shadows and surface characteristics : the multispectral Portable Light Dome

TL;DR: A multispectral, multidirectional, portable and dome-shaped acquisition system that documents and measures the 3D surface structure of objects, re-visualises underdrawings, faded pigments and inscriptions, and examines the MS results in combination with the actual relief characteristics of the physical object.
Journal ArticleDOI

Documenting archaeological thin sections in high‐resolution: A comparison of methods and discussion of applications

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that advances in digital imaging technology now allow for fast and high‐resolution visual recording of entire thin sections up to at least ×30 magnification and suggested that adopting a digital micromorphological documentation practice has several advantages.

Towards a combined use of IR, UV and 3D-Imaging for the study of small inscribed and illuminated artefacts

TL;DR: This contribution presents an approach that combines the detection of colour, surface shape and the reflective characteristics of surfaces by using a selection of IR, Red, Green, Blue and UV light spectra and applying them on 3D models.
Journal ArticleDOI

An applied complementary use of macro X-ray fluorescence scanning and multi-light reflectance imaging to study Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts. The Rijmbijbel of Jacob van Maerlant

TL;DR: In this article, the authors applied two complementary techniques to reveal the pigments the artists used to create the folios of a famous Flemish illuminated manuscript, the Rijmbijbel of Jacob van Maerlant (13th century, Bruges).
