This is the fourth in a series of articles on computer architecture for discrete manufacturing control problems. This particular paper evaluates a microprocessor which was presented in Part IlL The instruction set is compared to an INTEL 8080 using speed of execution and memory storage requirements as a comparison basis. The control of an industrial robot is used as an example to illustrate the power of the microprocessor. Again, the INTEL 8080 is used as a basis for the comparison.

Microprocessor Architecture for Discrete Manufacturing Control, Part IV: Computer System Performance Evaluation

A design for a Level (1) control computer, is presented. The objective is to define a system which meets the requirements of the control environment set forth in an earlier paper. The areas which are discussed are the input system, the output system, the memory system, and the central processing unit.
