Journal ArticleDOI

The fractal dimension as a measure of the roughness of rock discontinuity profiles

TL;DR: In this paper, the fractal dimension is proposed as a method of objectively quantifying the roughness profile of such discontinuities, which can be used in the analysis of deformation and failure of rock masses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Installation induced stresses for grouted roof bolts

TL;DR: In this article, a method of modeling a system of roof bolts is presented, which is then applied in the determination of the state of stress due to bolt tightening, and the analysis showed that the grout annulus transferred nearly all of the bolt load 3nto the rock within a distance of 12 hole diameters from the point of bolt load application.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effective modulus of rock as a composite material

TL;DR: In this paper, an approximation equation for the effective elastic moduli of composite materials including certain rocks was obtained by assuming that the material is composed of elastic granular inclusions surrounded by a matrix having different elastic properties.
