The (mis)measurement of restraint: an analysis of conceptual and psychometric issues

TL;DR: Herman and Mack as discussed by the authors examined the conceptual and psychometric deficiencies of the Restraint Scale, an instrument intended to identify chronic dieters, including confounding of restraint with disinhibition, the inapplicability of the scale to obese samples, problems with the factor structure, and difficulties in completing the scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of physical threat and ego threat on eating behavior.

TL;DR: The authors found that ego threats (failure at an easy task or anticipating having to give a speech in front of an evaluative audience) significantly increased restrained subjects' eating but did not significantly suppress unrestrained subjects" eating.
