Journal ArticleDOI
Pneumocystis carinii infection in patients with chronic bronchial disease
Journal ArticleDOI
An easy and quick method for the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in HIV-1-infected individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in heart transplant recipients.
Rosa Cardenal,Francisco J. Medrano,Jose M. Varela,Antonio Ordóñez,C. Regordán,Manuel Rincón,Ángel T. Martínez,Enrique J. Calderón +7 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that the occurrence of PC pneumonia in immunocompromised patients might be from a new infection rather than from the reactivation of latent organisms is supported and continuous prophylaxis might be indicated in areas with a high prevalence of PC for patients at highest risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Presence of glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies in HIV− patients with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia
Enrique J. Calderón,I. Wichmann,Jose M. Varela,Nieves Respaldiza,C. Regordán,Jorge Fernandez-Alonso,Francisco J. Medrano,Soledad Cano,J.A. Cuello,Antonio Núñez-Roldán +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that P. carinii alveolar injury or the host response to the organism could affect the basal membrane Goodpasture antigen or a similar antigen, and induces anti‐GBM antibody production in HIV− patients, and support the hypothesis that, at least in some cases, Good Pasture's syndrome could be triggered by an alveolars lesion induced by a P.carinii pneumonia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absence of Pneumocystis carinii carriers among patients with cystic fibrosis.
Jose M. Varela,J. Dapena,C. Regordán,M. Blanco,M.A. González de la Puente,Enrique J. Calderón +5 more
TL;DR: Seroepidemiologic studies have shown that environmental exposure to subclinical infection with the organism occurs commonly in the general population but with variations in frequency and epidemiological pattern, and the latent organisms are presumed to be acquired in early childhood.
