TL;DR: Epidemiologic and phylogenetic analyses show repeated outbreaks derived from vaccine viruses are shown to be recurrent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic accuracy of a duplex real-time reverse transcription quantitative PCR assay for detection of African horse sickness virus.
Alan John Guthrie,N. James MacLachlan,N. James MacLachlan,Christopher Joone,Carina W. Lourens,Camilla Theresa Weyer,Melvyn Quan,Mpho S. Monyai,Ian A. Gardner +8 more
TL;DR: The AHSV RT-qPCR assay provides for rapid, high-throughput analysis of samples, and is both analytically and diagnostically sensitive and specific, thus it is appropriate that its reproducibility be evaluated in other laboratories as a global standard for detection of AHSv.
Journal ArticleDOI
African horse sickness in naturally infected, immunised horses
Camilla Theresa Weyer,Melvyn Quan,Christopher Joone,Carina W. Lourens,Nigel J Maclachlan,Alan John Guthrie +5 more
TL;DR: It was shown that 16% of immunised horses in an AHS endemic area were infected with AHSV over a 2 year period, with half of these (8%) being subclinically infected.
Journal ArticleDOI
