Journal ArticleDOI
Pure silicon thin-film anodes for lithium-ion batteries: a review
Mohammed Salah,Mohammed Salah,Peter J. Murphy,Colin Hall,Candice Francis,Robert Kerr,Manrico Fabretto +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive overview and understanding of pure thin-film silicon anodes using physical vapor and chemical vapor deposition (PVD & CVD) and the factors affecting their electrochemical performance and cyclability are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Doped and reactive silicon thin film anodes for lithium ion batteries: A review
Mohammed Salah,Mohammed Salah,Colin Hall,Peter J. Murphy,Candice Francis,Robert Kerr,Bastian Stoehr,Sam Rudd,Manrico Fabretto +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the performance of oxidized, nitrated, and hydrogenated silicon thin films with pure silicon, and found that the hydrogenated and oxidized silicon reaction products served as a buffer layer and/or matrix, helping to negate volume changes during charge/discharge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compressively Stressed Silicon Nanoclusters as an Antifracture Mechanism for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes.
Mohammed Salah,Mohammed Salah,Colin Hall,Eva Alvarez de Eulate,Peter J. Murphy,Candice Francis,Robert Kerr,Thushan Pathirana,Manrico Fabretto +8 more
TL;DR: In contrast to the fixed belief within the literature, higher compressive residual-stress films showed better electrochemical and cycle performance compared to lower residual stress films, which will help researchers improve the development of silicon-based thin-film anodes.
