Abstract: This study aims to investigate the entrepreneurial orientation and motivation to start up a business in a specific group of health care professionals (HCP), namely diagnostic and therapy technicians. Primary data collected through a sample of 367 HCP is used. The results regarding the entrepreneur’s psychological and cognitive profile supported the hypothesis that HCP who have previously created a firm have particular psychological and cognitive characteristics conducive to entrepreneurial activity. The results also demonstrate that motivation influences the willingness of firm creation. Additionally, this study highlights some implications for management seeking to promote the emergence of context-relevant conditions that would allow HCP to launch their own business venture more readily.

Abstract: In the current competitive environment, great emphasis is placed on the knowl- edge and skills of the workforce as important elements in achieving organizational goals. As this focus on employee skills has increased, so have organizational programs and initiatives to ensure that the training in place to develop those skills is not sporadic, but rather part of a continuous effort toward keeping employee skills up to date. It becomes fundamental, in this context, to understand such programs and evaluate their impact, both within companies and externally, in terms of their decision making and business results. This paper aims to do that, through a study of the work-related training practices of in- dustrial firms in the Northern-Spanish region of Asturias. In addition, it develops a new variable – training intensity – and examines its impact on the planning, execution and evaluation of training programs in these firms. Among other findings, our study confirms that training-intensive firms have a more...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the innovation within the cluster of a traditional European wine region (Region of the Douro - Portugal), characterized by the so-called model of terroir in wine, an economic structure supported by a large number of growers, small and medium-sized wineries and high regulation throughout the productive chain, which clearly emerges the question of tradition versus innovation.
Abstract: This paper aims firstly to examine the innovation within the cluster of a traditional European wine region (Region of the Douro - Portugal), characterized by the so-called model of terroir in wine, an economic structure supported by a large number of growers, small and medium-sized wineries and high regulation throughout the productive chain, which clearly emerges the question of tradition versus innovation. This research used grounded theory method and the results show that traditional companies remain in a region whose legislation hinders the radical innovations, but at the same time, ensures quality values. There is a transfer of traditional values of a specific product, the port wine, for new products recently launched in the market, and simultaneously a transfer of value-added of the port wine to the value of family ties with the production process and with the land of the Douro Region.

Abstract: The traditional concept of innovation distinguishes product innovation from process innovation. However there’s not a lot of literature which regards the strategies of organisational and marketing innovation. The main goal of this study is to give a contribution in order to fulfil this blank, by researching the impact of organisational and marketing innovations (non-technological), on the technological innovation, both to the industry and to the services. In the empiric study, we used data extracted from the Community Innovation Survey 2008, for Portugal, by applying a probit and logit regression. The obtained results confirm the importance of the marketing innovations for the services companies. The effects of the non-technological innovation, on the technological innovation vary according to the sector at which the company performs, although we cannot neglect the similarities in some results. Finally, the study shows the positive influence of the services companies on the likelihood of innovation and the extent of innovation.
