Journal ArticleDOI

Q-elastosonography of solid thyroid nodules: assessment of diagnostic efficacy and interobserver variability in a large patient cohort.

TL;DR: Q-elastography showed excellent diagnostic performance for the prediction of thyroid malignancy and is a valid and reproducible diagnostic method as well as a promising tool for identifying suspicious solid thyroid nodules needing cytological assessment and surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI

A cost analysis of thyroid core needle biopsy vs. diagnostic surgery

TL;DR: CNB can detect a large proportion of the benign thyroid nodules that are classified as indeterminate by FNA, and patients can avoid diagnostic thyroidectomy and hospitals can reduce their surgical costs by one-third.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simultaneous occurrence of medullary carcinoma and papillary microcarcinoma of thyroid in a patient with men 2A syndrome. Report of a case

TL;DR: There is no known common cause of these 2 different tumor types; it may be a stochastic exception, but several other possibilities such as a common precursor cell or a common tumorigenic stimulus offer interesting perspectives for speculation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Perioperative care in elderly patients undergoing thyroid surgery.

TL;DR: The experience in thyroid surgery in geriatric patients within the environment of a "week surgery unit", conceived to offer a highly specialized setting for thyroid patients needing short stay after surgery, showed that the surgical outcomes were comparable to the ones from third surgery in young patients.
