Spontaneous pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis and endocarditis: Incidence, risk factors, and outcome
Carlos Pigrau,Benito Almirante,Xavier Flores,Vicenç Falcó,Dolors Rodríguez,Gasser I,Carlos Villanueva,Albert Pahissa +7 more
TL;DR: Favorable outcome with shorter treatment in uncomplicated pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis associated with infectious endocarditis suggests that prolonged therapy may not be needed in this subgroup except for those infected by difficult to treat microorganisms, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or Candida spp.

TL;DR: A retrospective, multicentre, observational study of gram-negative prosthetic joint infection diagnosed from 2003 through to 2010 in 16 Spanish hospitals confirms a 79% success rate in ciprofloxacin-susceptible GN-PJI treated with debridement, ciprodexacin and implant retention.

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the frequency of antimicrobial-resistant organisms in PJIs has increased in the recent years and the observed trends have important implications for the management of PJIs and prophylaxis in joint replacements.
