Journal ArticleDOI
Enzymes Involved in Defense Functions of Hemocytes of Mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis
TL;DR: Mytilus galloprovincialis hemocytes contain phosphatases, esterases, proteases, and glucosidases as revealed by a semiquantitative colorimetric method and comparison between the two groups of mussels showed a higher activity level of lysozyme in younger mussels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Symbionts and diseases of farmed mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis throughout the culture process in the Rías of Galicia (NW Spain)
TL;DR: Quantitatively, symbiont loads were higher and histological signs of stress more abundant in Moana and Vilagarcia (the most inner sites in the Rias), intermediate in Illa de Arousa and Muros, and lower in Lorbe.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vitrostudy of phagocytic ability ofMytilus galloprovincialisLmk. haemocytes
TL;DR: Among the haemocyte types, the granulocytes showed an important phagocytic activity whereas the hyalinocytes did not, thus indicating that mussel haemocytes are functionally heterogeneous.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal variation and effects of age, food availability, size, gonadal development, and parasitism on the hemogram of mytilus galloprovincialis
TL;DR: Results suggested that a hemocytic response was detected in hemolymph when the foreign organisms are pathogenic and evoke a heavy inflammatory reaction, being positively correlated with water temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphological Characterization of the Hemocytes of the Clam,Ruditapes decussatus(Mollusca: Bivalvia)
TL;DR: The morphology of hemolymph cells was studied for the first time in Ruditapes decussatus and the existence of hyalinocytes and granulocytes was confirmed by electron microscopy.
