Journal ArticleDOI

FRP Retrofit of Low and Medium Strength Circular and Rectangular Reinforced Concrete Columns

TL;DR: In this article, 68 reinforced concrete columns were tested under uniaxial compression after being jacketed externally with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Failures of structures during the October 23, 2011 Tabanlı (Van) and November 9, 2011 Edremit (Van) earthquakes in Turkey

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the impact of the 2011 Tabanli and Edremit earthquakes on different types of structures and their failures and seismic performance, through detailed explanation of damage mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seismic Retrofit of Brittle and Low Strength RC Columns Using Fiber Reinforced Polymer and Cementitious Composites

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete columns constructed with low quality of concrete and insufficient transverse reinforcement before and after retrofitting, and show that all reference specimens, which were not retrofitted, failed with a premature loss of performance either due to buckling of longitudinal reinforcement or loss of bond.
Book ChapterDOI

Axial behavior of rc columns retrofitted with frp composites

TL;DR: In this article, 15 RC columns and one plain concrete column with inadequate transverse reinforcement were tested under uniaxial compression after being jacketed externally with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seismic Retrofit of Full-Scale Substandard Extended Rectangular RC Columns through CFRP Jacketing: Test Results and Design Recommendations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe brittle behavior of substandard columns during earthquakes as one of the most common reasons of structural failures in a building's structural integrity and suggest that capacity design principles and ductile detailing concepts have no...
