Journal Article
The evaluation of renal transplantation candidates: clinical practice guidelines.
Bertram L. Kasiske,Charles B. Cangro,Sundaram Hariharan,Dondald E. Hricik,Ronald H. Kerman,David M. Roth,David N. Rush,Miguel A. Vazquez,Matthew R. Weir +8 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Course of Polyoma Virus Nephropathy in 67 Renal Transplant Patients
Emilio Ramos,Cinthia B. Drachenberg,John C. Papadimitriou,Omar Hamze,Jeffrey C. Fink,David K. Klassen,Rene C. Drachenberg,A Wiland,Ravinder K. Wali,Charles B. Cangro,Eugene J. Schweitzer,Stephen T. Bartlett,Matthew R. Weir +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that PVN is a serious hazard for renal transplant recipients and contributes directly to graft loss and antiviral drugs are needed, as the reduction of immunosuppression alone may not significantly improve graft function in patients with already established PVN.
Journal ArticleDOI
Laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy: the university of maryland 3-year experience
Stephen C. Jacobs,Eugene Cho,Brian J. Dunkin,John L. Flowers,Eugene J. Schweitzer,Charles B. Cangro,Jeffrey C. Fink,Alan C. Farney,Benjamin Philosophe,Bruce Jarrell,Stephen T. Bartlett +10 more
TL;DR: Laroscopic donor nephrectomy appears to be safe and decreases morbidity in the renal donor, and allograft function is comparable to that in open neph rectomy series.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histological patterns of polyomavirus nephropathy: correlation with graft outcome and viral load.
Cinthia B. Drachenberg,John C. Papadimitriou,Hans H. Hirsch,Ravinder K. Wali,Clinton D. Crowder,J Nogueira,Charles B. Cangro,Susan R. Mendley,Ayesa Mian,Emilio Ramos +9 more
TL;DR: Biopsies showing lesser degrees of renal scarring at the time of diagnosis were associated with, more likely, resolution of the infection, in response to decrease of immunosuppression, and correlated with worse graft outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Islet cell damage associated with tacrolimus and cyclosporine: morphological features in pancreas allograft biopsies and clinical correlation.
Cinthia B. Drachenberg,David K. Klassen,Matthew R. Weir,Ann Wiland,Jeffrey C. Fink,Stephen T. Bartlett,Charles B. Cangro,Steven A. Blahut,John C. Papadimitriou +8 more
TL;DR: The structural damage to beta cells demonstrated in this study is similar to morphological and functional abnormalities previously described in experimental animal models and can at least partially account for the glucose metabolism abnormalities seen in patients receiving these drugs.
