Journal ArticleDOI

The relation between semantic memory structure, associative abilities, and verbal and figural creativity

TL;DR: In this paper, the roles of semantic memory and associative abilities in creative thinking have been highlighted, but it remains unclear how these two capacities relate to each other, nor how they can be used together.
Journal ArticleDOI

Semantic association ability mediates the relationship between brain structure and human creativity.

TL;DR: Zhang et al. as mentioned in this paper explored the brain mechanisms underlying semantic associative ability and its relationship with creativity based on semantic distance, and found that semantic distance was positively correlated with the gray matter volume (GMV) of the left posterior inferior temporal gyrus (LpITG), which is associated with visual word learning, semantic knowledge retrieval, and semantic memory, in addition to divergent thinking and creative traits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retrieval flexibility links to creativity: evidence from computational linguistic measure.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors developed five metrics to quantify retrieval flexibility based on previous studies, which confirmed the important role of creativity and showed that retrieval flexibility was positively correlated with multiple creativity-related behavior constructs and can promote distinct search patterns in different creative groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Left temporal pole contributes to creative thinking via an individual semantic network

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the properties of semantic networks using a semantic judgment rating task at the individual level and explore the relationship among creative abilities, the topological properties of the semantic networks, and their underlying brain structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exploring the behavioral and neural correlates of semantic distance in creative writing.

TL;DR: The authors employed three objective indicators based on semantic distance to quantify the originality and appropriateness of creativity by analyzing long texts in a story-writing experiment and found that global and local distances were generated separately by computing the mean distance of the whole text and the distance between adjacent sentences, and they were positively correlated with story originality in writing.
