Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) in heterostructure composed of a metal layer and a conventional one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) strongly shifts toward shorter wavelengths as the incident angle increases. Such angle-sensitive property of TPP greatly limits the operating angular width of TPP-based optical devices. Very recently, researchers found that the angle dependence of the photonic bandgap (PBG) in 1DPC containing all-dielectric elliptical metamaterials (EMMs) can be flexibly tuned from angle-sensitive to angle-insensitive. Herein, we propose a heterostructure composed of a metal layer and a 1DPC containing all-dielectric EMMs to achieve a TPP with high angular tolerance. The angular tolerance of the TPP reaches 30.8°, which is much larger than those of the reported TPPs in heterostructures composed of a metal layer and a conventional 1DPC. Our work provides a feasible route to expending the operating angular width of TPP-based optical devices, such as filters, absorbers, lasers, and sensors. Then, we show the angle dependence of the TPP. gives the reflectance spectrum of the heterostructure M [(CD) 4 B] 10 as a function of the incident angle under TM polarization. The blue solid line represents the wavelength of the TPP extracted from the reflectance dip. As the incident angle increases from 0 to 40°, the short-wavelength edge of the PBG slightly shifts from 1182.8 to 1119.6 nm and the long-wavelength one of the PBG slightly shifts from 2061.3 to 1869.2 nm. By virtue of the angle-insensitive property of the PBG, the TPP exhibits a superior angle-insensitive property. As the incident angle increases from 0 to 40°, the TPP slightly shifts from 1779.3 to 1671.4 nm. The relative wavelength shift is only △ λ / λ = 109.7/1779.3 = 6.1%. Besides, as the incident angle increases from 0 to 40°, the reflectance of the TPP remains near-zero (slightly increases from 8.5 × 10 −5 to 4.0 × 10 −2 ). • An angle-insensitive bandgap is designed in a one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) containing elliptical metamaterials (EMMs). •A Tamm plasmon polariton with high angular tolerance is achieved in a heterostructure composed of a metal layer and a 1DPC containing EMMs. •As the incident angle increases from 0 to 30 degrees, the TPP slightly shifts from 1779.3 to 1717.2 nm

Simulation on Continuous-Wave Silicon Carbide Raman Laser Pumped by 1550 Nm Lasers

Electromagnetic (EM) absorbers and emitters have attracted much interest because of their versatile applications. A photonic heterostructure composed of silicon carbide (SiC) layer/germanium (Ge) cavity/distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) has been proposed. Selective emission properties have been investigated through rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) method. The results illustrate that Tamm phonon-polaritons can be excited, and the magnetic field is partially centralized at the junction of Ge cavity and SiC film, aimed to improve the interactions of photon–phonon. The absorptivity/emissivity of the structure can be better optimized by controlling the coupling of surface modes with the incident wave. Near-unity absorption can be achieved through optimizing the SiC grating/Ge cavity/distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) multilayer structure with geometrical parameters of ds = 0.75 μm, dg = 0.7 μm, d1 = 1.25 μm and d2 = 0.75 μm, respectively. Physical mechanism of selective emission characteristics is deliberated. In addition, the simulation results demonstrate that the emitter desensitizes to the incidence angle and polarization state in the mid-infrared (MIR) range. This research ameliorates the function of the selective emitters, which provides more efficient design for SiC-based systems.
