Understanding rapid category detection via multiply degraded images.
Chetan Nandakumar,Jitendra Malik +1 more
TL;DR: It is discovered that rapid category detection in humans is quite robust to naturally occurring degradations and is mediated by a non-linear interaction of visual features, in contrast, modern-day object recognition algorithms are not as robust.

How little do we need for 3-D shape perception?
TL;DR: This study identifies the ‘medium-blur’ condition, images approximately 32 pixels on a side, to be the limit for accurate 3-D shape perception and finds that degradation affects the perceived slant of point-estimates making images look flatter as degradation increases.
