Smart Electronic Textiles for Wearable Sensing and Display

In critical situations, a patient quarantines himself from others which makes it difficult for a doctor to monitor the acute health symptoms of a patient. This work aims to create a Smart Electrocardiogram monitoring and analysis system. It works intelligently using machine learning for the detection of heart disease. It enables doctors to monitor the patient remotely from a developed Django Web application. The patient will be able to record and transfer the Electrocardiogram (ECG) data to the doctor or any family members remotely which can detect heart disease. Also, it will help the people living in remote areas, lacking a proper infrastructure but can be monitored at low cost by a doctor easily. Therefore, in case of emergency situations patients can be saved by real time monitoring.

Smart ECG Monitoring and Analysis System Using Machine Learning

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, heart disease is spreading throughout the world very rapidly and the situation is becoming alarming in people aged 40 or above (Xu, 2020). Different methods and procedures are adopted to detect and diagnose heart abnormalities. Data scientists are working on finding the different methods with the required accuracy (Strodthoff et al., 2021). Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the procedure to find the heart condition in the waveform. For ages, the machine learning techniques, which are feature based, played a vital role in the medical sciences and centralized the data in cloud computing and having access throughout the world. Furthermore, deep learning or transfer learning widens the vision and introduces different transfer learning methods to ensure accuracy and time management to detect the ECG in a better way in comparison to the previous and machine learning methods. Hence, it is said that transfer learning has turned world research into more appropriate and innovative research. Here, the proposed comparison and accuracy analysis of different transfer learning methods by using ECG classification for detecting ECG Arrhythmia (CAA-TL). The CAA-TL model has the multiclassification of the ECG dataset, which has been taken from Kaggle. Some of the healthy and unhealthy datasets have been taken in real-time, augmented, and fused with the Kaggle dataset, i.e., Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH dataset). The CAA-TL worked on the accuracy of heart problem detection by using different methods like ResNet50, AlexNet, and SqueezeNet. All three deep learning methods showed remarkable accuracy, which is improved from the previous research. The comparison of different deep learning approaches with respect to layers widens the research and gives the more clarity and accuracy and at the same time finds it time-consuming while working with multiclassification with massive dataset of ECG. The implementation of the proposed method showed an accuracy of 98.8%, 90.08%, and 91% for AlexNet, SqueezeNet, and ResNet50, respectively.

ECG Classification for Detecting ECG Arrhythmia Empowered with Deep Learning Approaches

With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), investigation of different diseases in healthcare improved, and cloud computing helped to centralize the data and to access patient records throughout the world. In this way, the electrocardiogram (ECG) is used to diagnose heart diseases or abnormalities. The machine learning techniques have been used previously but are feature-based and not as accurate as transfer learning; the proposed development and validation of embedded device prove ECG arrhythmia by using the transfer learning (DVEEA-TL) model. This model is the combination of hardware, software, and two datasets that are augmented and fused and further finds the accuracy results in high proportion as compared to the previous work and research. In the proposed model, a new dataset is made by the combination of the Kaggle dataset and the other, which is made by taking the real-time healthy and unhealthy datasets, and later, the AlexNet transfer learning approach is applied to get a more accurate reading in terms of ECG signals. In this proposed research, the DVEEA-TL model diagnoses the heart abnormality in respect of accuracy during the training and validation stages as 99.9% and 99.8%, respectively, which is the best and more reliable approach as compared to the previous research in this field.

Development and Validation of Embedded Device for Electrocardiogram Arrhythmia Empowered with Transfer Learning

Machine learning has been applied in healthcare domain for the development of smart devices to improve the life of the elderly persons in the society. Taking care of elderly person in the society is a critical issue that need automation. To proffer solution, many researchers developed deep learning algorithms smart devices for detecting elderly behavior to improve the elderly healthcare. Despite the progress made in the applications of deep learning algorithms in elderly healthcare systems, to the best of the author&#x2019;s knowledge no comprehensive recent development has been published on this interesting research area especially focusing on deep learning. In this paper, we presented a comprehensive recent development on the advances, methods and real world applications on developing smart devices for detecting elderly behavior for use in smart home, smart clinic, smart hospital and smart elderly nursing home for elderly person&#x2019;s healthcare. Theories of the deep learning algorithms, recent development recorded as regard to the applicability of deep learning in elderly healthcare systems and case studies were discussed. A taxonomy based on the data extracted from the applicability of deep learning algorithms in elderly healthcare systems is created to ease pointing out areas that need more attention. The article shows that the deep learning algorithm that received tremendous attention from researchers is convolutional neural network architecture and its variants. To help in future development of the research area, we highlighted the challenges associated to the applicability of deep learning algorithms in elderly healthcare system and pointed out new point of view for future research. The research community can use our review as a benchmark for proposing novel deep learning algorithms based smart devices to detect elderly behavior for elderly healthcare systems. Industries and organizations can use the paper as a guide in selecting machine learning based smart device for detecting elderly behavior for elderly healthcare support.

Detecting Elderly Behaviors Based on Deep Learning for Healthcare: Recent Advances, Methods, Real-World Applications and Challenges

Integrating ECG Monitoring and Classification via IoT and Deep Neural Networks

Postural control decreases with aging. Thus, an efficient and accurate method of detecting postural control is needed. We enrolled 35 elderly adults (aged 82.06 ± 8.74 years) and 20 healthy young adults (aged 21.60 ± 0.60 years) who performed standing tasks for 40 s, performed six times. The coordinates of 15 joint nodes were captured using a Kinect device (30 Hz). We plotted joint positions into a single 2D figure (named a joint–node plot, JNP) once per second for up to 40 s. A total of 15 methods combining deep and machine learning for postural control classification were investigated. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predicted value (PPV), negative predicted value (NPV), and kappa values of the selected methods were assessed. The highest PPV, NPV, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and kappa values were higher than 0.9 in validation testing. The presented method using JNPs demonstrated strong performance in detecting the postural control ability of young and elderly adults.

Detection of Postural Control in Young and Elderly Adults Using Deep and Machine Learning Methods with Joint-Node Plots.

Positron emission tomography (PET) can provide functional images and identify abnormal metabolic regions of the whole-body to effectively detect tumor presence and distribution. The filtered back-projection (FBP) algorithm is one of the most common images reconstruction methods. However, it will generate strike artifacts on the reconstructed image and affect the clinical diagnosis of lesions. Past studies have shown reduction in strike artifacts and improvement in quality of images by two-dimensional morphological structure operators (2D-MSO). The morphological structure method merely processes the noise distribution of 2D space and never considers the noise distribution of 3D space. This study was designed to develop three-dimensional-morphological structure operators (3D MSO) for nuclear medicine imaging and effectively eliminating strike artifacts without reducing image quality. A parallel operation was also used to calculate the minimum background standard deviation of the images for three-dimensional morphological structure operators with the optimal response curve (3D-MSO/ORC). As a result of Jaszczak phantom and rat verification, 3D-MSO/ORC showed better denoising performance and image quality than the 2D-MSO method. Thus, 3D MSO/ORC with a 3 × 3 × 3 mask can reduce noise efficiently and provide stability in FBP images.
