A uniplanar compact triple operating band asymmetric coplanar strip (ACS) fed printed antenna loaded with multiple L-shaped branches and the asymmetric rectangular ground plane has been proposed and developed for multiple wideband wireless system applications. The proposed antenna structure has been simulated and printed (single layer) on a 14 mm × 20.5 mm × 1.6 mm size low-cost substrate FR4. In the design, modified L-shaped strips have been chosen to achieve compactness and also used to generate three wideband independent resonant modes that correspond to several communication standards such as WiBro/LTE/Bluetooth/ISM/WLAN/US public safety and WiMAX applications. The proposed ACS fed antenna geometry has been simulated using CST MWS and tested its results experimentally by using Keysight N5222A Microwave Network Analyzer. A detailed analysis of antenna evolution stages and parametric study has been given to show the tuning property of each operating band. The obtained results demonstrate that the developed ACS fed antenna is having −10 dB (reflection coefficient) impedance bandwidth of 200 MHz from 2.3 to 2.5 GHz, 200 MHz from 3.4 to 3.6 and 2.6 GHz from 4.25 to 6.85 GHz. Further, it is tested experimentally for its radiation patterns (co and cross) which indicate the omnidirectional and bidirectional nature in H and E planes respectively.

A compact uniplanar ACS fed multi band low cost printed antenna for modern 2.4/3.5/5 GHz applications

In this research, a compact uniplanar multiband asymmetric coplanar strip-fed triple band monopole antenna is presented for WLAN/WiMAX applications. The designed antenna consists of an N and modified L-shaped strips and lateral coplanar ground plane for multiple wide operating frequency bands. The geometry is designed on the substrate FR4 to work over three bands from 2.45 to 2.6, 3.4–3.7 and 4.5–6.3 GHz with resonant frequencies of 2.5, 3.5 and 5.8 GHz for return loss S11 < − 10 dB. The uniplanar antenna is simulated using CST MWS software and tested using PNA N5222A vector network analyzer (Agilent technologies) and anechoic chamber. Measured results are confirmed with simulated results. Nearly, omnidirectional and bidirectional patterns with constant gain is achieved in all the operating bands. The easy feeding technique, wide impedance bandwidth, cost effective and very small in size makes it a best candidate for advanced compact wireless systems.

Multi feed multi band uniplanar ACS fed antenna with N shape and inverted L shape radiating branches for wireless applications

A compact quad-band hybrid antenna for Com- pass/WiMAX/WLAN applications is proposed. The hybrid antenna is designed based on the method of combining a composite right/left- handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) unit cell with a meandered monopole and wide multi-band characteristics are achieved by merg- ing some of resonance frequencies of the CRLH-TL unit cell and me- andered monopole together. Coplanar waveguide (CPW) is used as a parallel excitation for both the CRLH-TL unit cell and meandered monopole. A prototype of the proposed hybrid antenna has been con- structed and experimentally studied. The measured results show that four distinct operating bandwidths with 10dB return loss are about 30MHz (1.25{1.28GHz), 290MHz (2.44{2.73GHz), 650MHz (3.17{ 3.82GHz) and 1130MHz (5.03{6.16GHz), covering the Compass B3, 2.5/3.5/5.5GHz WiMAX and 5.2/5.8GHz WLAN bands. Further- more, the antenna has a single-layer planar structure with a small volume of only 31 £ 21 £ 2mm 3 . Acceptable radiation patterns and peak realized gains are obtained over the operating bands.

Design of a Compact Quad-Band Hybrid Antenna for Compass/WiMAX/WLAN Applications

In this paper, a compact metamaterial quad-band antenna is presented. The antenna is designed from a unit cell of asymmetric extended-composite right/left handed transmission line (ECRLH TL) as the main resonator part and a 50 Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) as the feeding part. The design concept and resonant frequencies are analyzed and discussed. The results show that the proposed antenna exhibits four frequency bands covering GSM810, WLAN 2.45/5.5 GHz and WiMAX 3.5 GHz bands. The overall size of the fabricated antenna is only 57.2mm× 31.2mm× 1.6 mm and is very small compared with other proposed quad-band antennas. In addition, a good agreement can be seen among the estimated resonant frequencies, HFSS simulated and measured results.

A Compact Metamaterial Quad-Band Antenna Based on Asymmetric E-CRLH Unit Cells

A quad band antenna with good gain and omni-directional pattern is proposed in this paper. The antenna design is based on loading a conventional monopole antenna by three different resonators. The resonators are inspired from the shunt branch of composite right-/left-handed cell. The resonators have a simple structure and compact size. The control of the frequency bands can be achieved arbitrarily and hence the suggested design methodology can be generalized to any required bands. The fabricated antenna prototype is operating at 2.6, 3.35, 5.15, and 6.1 GHz with bandwidth wider than 100 MHz for each band. The antenna's operating principle and design procedures with the aid of electromagnetic full wave simulation are presented. Finally, the experimental results exhibit good agreement with the simulated ones which confirm the proposed designed methodology. The proposed monopole antenna has a patch size of 13.5 mm × 6.5 mm and the whole antenna size (including the feed line) is 35 mm × 32 mm. Compared to conventional single-band microstrip patch radiator size, the proposed quad band radiator has the size of 9, 15, 37.5, and 72.5% at relevant frequency bands.

Design and analysis of a compact quad band loaded monopole antenna with independent resonators

In this article, a compact quad band monopole antenna is demonstrated. Asymmetric coplanar strip feeding is applied in the design in order to compact the size. The proposed antenna fabricated on a FR4 substrate has an overall size of 30–30 mm2. By integrating an invert-C slot and a modified invert-F strip into an invert-C patch, multiple resonant frequencies can be excited at 1.1, 2.35, 3.6, and 5.4 GHz individually for global positioning system, wireless local area network, Bluetooth/ISM, and Wi-MAX applications. Compact quad band monopole antenna

A novel transition structure of the half mode substrate integrated leaky wave antenna has been proposed in this paper. The transition structure can efficiently convert the input power to the leaky mode to enhance the efficiency of the leaky wave antenna and avoid possible reflection at the terminal of the leaky wave antenna. Moreover, a modified method of complex propagation constants extraction for leaky wave antenna is also presented in this paper, which gives accurate prediction on the radiation performance of the leaky wave antenna. Measured and simulated results indicate that the proposed transition structure makes the side lobe of the half mode substrate integrated leaky wave antenna smaller.

A novel transition for a Half-Mode substrate integrated waveguide leaky wave antenna

This paper proposes a new robust micromachined embedded coplanar waveguide (CPW). The central and ground plates are partially bent and overlapped within the trench, and due to tight coupling of the E -field between the overlapped plates, the micromachined embedded CPW line is capable of a wide range characteristic impedance (17.9-92.3 Ω), in a compact size. Furthermore, the area in which the E -field radiates into the substrate of the micromachined embedded CPW is quite narrow compared to conventional CPWs, and therefore, the dielectric loss of the micromachined embedded CPW can be effectively suppressed. Compared with conventional CPW lines, the embedded CPW lines have shown a marked reduction in loss, especially in the low-impedance range. The micromachined embedded CPW lines on the high-resistivity silicon substrate (ρs = 15 000 Ω · cm) achieve a measured loss as low as 0.81 dB/cm at 50 GHz. Moreover, the fabrication process of the micromachined embedded CPW line is compatible with the CMOS process. These features make micromachined embedded CPW a promising transmission line for RF integrated circuit application.

New CMOS-Compatible Micromachined Embedded Coplanar Waveguide

A 3{10GHz wide-band low noise amplifler with novel input matching mechanism is presented in this letter. The proposed circuit uses reactive-feedback and transistor's intrinsic gate-drain capacitor as input matching network to achieve a simulated i10dB input re∞ection coe-cient from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. The fabricated wideband LNA achieves a simulated power gain (S21) of about 10dB from 3.1G to 10.6GHz, and noise flgure of 2.72{3.26dB from 3.1G to 10.6GHz. The input 1dB compression point and input IP3 (IIP3) at 3.1GHz are about i18.5 and i12dBm, respectively. The DC supply voltage and power consumption is 1.5V i and 15mA, respectively.

A novel ultra wideband transformer-feedback LNA

In this paper, a miniaturized wide band micromachined directional coupler is demonstrated. A slot structure is applied to the design and utilized to enhance the coupling between the signal lines, therefore, the proposed coupler can achieve high coupling within a smaller area. The overall size of the proposed coupler is only 1340 × 4750 µm. The final dimensions are obtained with the use of full-wave electromagnetic analysis. The validity of the proposed design is confirmed experimentally.
