Journal ArticleDOI
Ceftazidime-avibactam: a novel cephalosporin/β-lactamase inhibitor combination.
George G. Zhanel,George G. Zhanel,Christopher D. Lawson,Heather J. Adam,Heather J. Adam,Frank Schweizer,Sheryl A. Zelenitsky,Philippe Lagacé-Wiens,Andrew J Denisuik,Ethan Rubinstein,Ethan Rubinstein,Alfred S. Gin,Alfred S. Gin,Daryl J. Hoban,Daryl J. Hoban,Joseph P. Lynch,James A. Karlowsky,James A. Karlowsky +17 more
TL;DR: Pharmacodynamic data suggest that ceftazidime-avibactam is rapidly bactericidal versus β-lactamase-producing Gram-negative bacilli that are not inhibited by ceftAZidime alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of the next-generation aminoglycoside plazomicin to gentamicin, tobramycin and amikacin
George G. Zhanel,Christopher D. Lawson,Sheryl A. Zelenitsky,Brandon Findlay,Frank Schweizer,Heather J. Adam,Andrew Walkty,Ethan Rubinstein,Alfred S. Gin,Daryl J. Hoban,Joseph P. Lynch,James A. Karlowsky +11 more
TL;DR: Given reported increases in bacterial resistance to current antimicrobial agents and the lack of availability of new agents with novel mechanisms, plazomicin may become a welcomed addition to the antibacterial armamentarium pending positive results from large-scale clinical trials and other required clinical studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrated pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic modelling to evaluate antimicrobial prophylaxis in abdominal surgery
Sheryl A. Zelenitsky,Christopher D. Lawson,Divna Calic,Robert E. Ariano,Jason A. Roberts,Jeffrey Lipman,George G. Zhanel +6 more
TL;DR: The findings support avoiding cefoxitin, avoiding clindamycin for anaerobic coverage, selecting 2 g doses of cefazolin even in patients <80 kg and using 3 mg/kg doses of gentamicin.
