TL;DR: In this article, a system, modeled in two geolocations (Oxford, England; San Diego, California), consists of a PV array and two storage solutions (defined by distinct sets of efficiencies/costs): short term (battery B) and long term (H, hydrogen reservoir with electrolyzer/fuel cell).

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors looked at how the energy consumption, thermal properties and internal temperature of 14 dwellings change as a result of a solid wall insulation (SWI) retrofit.

TL;DR: Building performance evaluation considers the whole building system from a fabric, service and occupant perspective, as well as its response to the environment and potential integration into smart cities.
Abstract: Building performance evaluation considers the whole building system from a fabric, service and occupant perspective, as well as its response to the environment and potential integration into smart cities. There are many BPE methods used to collect building data and inform designs. Energy and environment monitoring, simulation, building surveys, post occupancy evaluation, element and whole building testing and their link to future development are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors defined what they mean by the term social value and discussed examples of what it looks like in practice, and discussed how all of these issues need to be accounted for in any assessment of social value/impact.
Abstract: In Chapter 1, we defined what we mean by the term social value. We also discussed examples of what it looks like in practice. We noted that the concept of social value is context dependent, has different potential in different projects, that it may change over time, affect some groups more than others and be seen by different groups in significantly different ways. In this chapter we discuss how all of these issues need to be accounted for in any assessment of social value/impact. We outline the ongoing debate surrounding the contentious issue of how social impact is measured and describe a structured methodology and set of principles for doing so in the context of the built environment.

TL;DR: The UK's impending departure from the European Union (BREXIT) brings future disconnection from EU directives, which had tied the country to reduced emissions commitments as mentioned in this paper, and the UK, another globally important economy, also amended its discourse making regulatory changes and dropping its commitment to zero carbon buildings.
Abstract: The political voice of sustainability has broken. Presidential change in the United States has led to it hardening its tone, re-prioritising its stance and bringing a marked loss of climate change emphasis. The UK, another globally important economy, also amended its discourse making regulatory changes and dropping its commitment to zero carbon buildings. The UK’s impending departure from the European Union (BREXIT) brings future disconnection from EU directives, which had tied the country to reduced emissions commitments.
