Interleukin-2 augments natural killer cell activity.

TL;DR: A further activity of IL-2 is reported, one previously attributed solely to interferon—the ability to augment the cytotoxic activity of natural killer cells.
Journal Article

Identification of ganglio-N-tetraosylceramide as a new cell surface marker for murine natural killer (NK) cells.

TL;DR: In this article, the BCG-induced NK cell activity of murine peritoneal exudate cells was abolished by preincubation of effector cells with anti-ganglio-N-tetraosylceramide (anti-asialo GM1) and C but not with other anti-glycolipid antibodies.
Journal Article

Interleukin 2 induces gamma-interferon production: participation of macrophages and NK-like cells.

TL;DR: Cell fractionation experiments revealed no dissociation between the requirements for augmentation of NK cytotoxic activity and for IFN production, and it is concluded that at least a portion of the NK boosting induced by IL 2-containing preparations is mediated through gamma-IFN.
Journal Article

Interleukin 2 administered in vivo induces the growth of cultured T cells in vivo.

TL;DR: The current studies highlight the potential of exogenous IL 2 to induce T cell growth in vivo and suggest that the administration of IL 2 in vivo may be useful for augmenting T cell responses that are relatively deficient in the production of endogenous IL 2.
