Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution and photosensitizing efficiency of porphyrins induced by application of exogenous 5-aminolevulinic acid in mice bearing mammary carcinoma.

TL;DR: Light and electron microscopy showed that the mitochondria of the tumor cells and of the endothelial cells and the basal lamina of vascular walls beneath the endothelium in the tumor tissue were initially extensively destroyed after PCT with ALA‐induced porphyrins.

Disorders of Porphyrin Metabolism

TL;DR: The history, classification, and incidence of Porphyria are described in this paper, where the authors also discuss the use of porphyrins and enzymes of the Heme Biosynthetic Pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of different photosensitizing dyes with respect to uptake C3H-tumors and tissues of mice.

TL;DR: Nine dyes, all potential sensitizers for photodynamic cancer therapy (PDT), were injected in mice with C3H mammary carcinomas and found to induce porphyrin fluorescence in tumors and some other tissues and the best tumorlocalizer of those tested was 3THPP.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and properties of coproporphyrinogenase.

TL;DR: Column chromatography of a partially purified enzyme preparation on Sephadex G-200 was found to be an improved method of purification, which gave a coproporphyrinogenase 58-fold purified, which was studied electrophoretically but no evidence was obtained to suggest that more than one enzyme was involved in the reaction.
