Predicting the need for escalation of care or death from repeated daily clinical observations and laboratory results in patients with SARS-CoV-2 during 2020: a retrospective population-based cohort study from the United Kingdom
Colin J Crooks,Colin J Crooks,Joe West,Joe West,Andrew W. Fogarty,Andrew W. Fogarty,Joanne R Morling,Joanne R Morling,Matthew J. Grainge,Sherif Gonem,Sherif Gonem,Mark Simmonds,Andrea Race,Irene Juurlink,Stephen Briggs,Simon Cruikshank,Susan Hammond-Pears,Timothy R. Card,Timothy R. Card +18 more
TL;DR: A bespoke SARS-CoV-2 escalation risk prediction score can predict need for clinical escalation better than a generic early warning score or a single estimation of risk at admission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rate of venous thromboembolism by cancer type compared to the general population using multiple linked databases
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic non-invasive biomarkers for all-cause mortality in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Nicole Cianci,Mohsan Subhani,Trevor Hill,Amardeep Khanna,Dong Zheng,Abhishek Sheth,Colin J Crooks,Guruprasad P. Aithal +7 more
TL;DR: This study reaffirms that non-invasive scoring systems, especially NFS, are reliable prognostic markers of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in NAFLD patients and can inform clinical practice in risk stratifying NAFLd patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hospital admission database or specialist national audits for monitoring gastrointestinal bleeding? both are vital to monitoring our clinical practice
Colin J Crooks,Joe West,S A Hearnshaw,Michael F. Murphy,P R Kelvin,R. F. A. Logan,Timothy R. Card +6 more
TL;DR: During the recent national audit, HES recorded reassuringly similar numbers for UGB hospital admissions and procedures, and with comparable rates of endoscopy suggests HES are not incorrectly coding large numbers of cases as UGB.
Journal ArticleDOI
A validation study of the CirCom comorbidity score in an English cirrhosis population using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink.
TL;DR: The CirCom score provided a small improvement in performance over the CCI in the prediction of all-cause and non-liver mortality, but not liver-related mortality, Therefore, it is important to include a measure of comorbidity in studies of cirrhosis survival, alongside aMeasure of Cirrhosis severity.
