TL;DR: This paper deals with the on-line measurement of the dimensional parameters of rubber gaskets in the automotive industry and tackles the problem of 3-D reconstruction, starting off with pairs of 2-D images of object shapes.

TL;DR: This paper discusses the problem of correcting the effects of harmonic interference on fast Fourier transform results and proposes and implements a procedure to evaluate and correct these effects on an intelligent FFT analyzer, which is also capable of indicating result uncertainties.
Abstract: This paper discusses the problem of correcting the effects of harmonic interference on fast Fourier transform (FFT) results. A procedure to evaluate and correct these effects is proposed and implemented on an intelligent FFT analyzer, which is also capable of indicating result uncertainties.

TL;DR: The hardware and the algorithms used for the Fourier transform analyzer are described, and the analytical development of the relationships for the uncertainty evaluation and the preliminary compensation of systematic effects are detailed.
Abstract: An fast Fourier transform analyzer with capabilities of auto-configuration, continuous signal analysis, and estimation of spectral component parameters has been provided with the capability of evaluating the uncertainty of the estimated values. The instrument, which has been implemented on a two-DSP hardware, has been characterized through several experimental tests, proving the metrological and operating performances. This paper describes the hardware and the algorithms used for the instrument, and it details the analytical development of the relationships for the uncertainty evaluation and the preliminary compensation of systematic effects. This paper also reports the main experimental results.

TL;DR: A preliminary step to the automated diagnosis of melanocytic skin lesions, based on ELM 7 point checklist, is proposed, in particular, an image processing methodology focussed on finding the presence of two different parameters is set-up and characterized.
Abstract: Early detection of melanoma is one of the greatest challenges of dermatologic practice today. A new diagnostic method, the “ELM 7 point checklist”, defines a set of seven features, based on colour and texture parameters, which describe the malignancy of a lesion. It has been presented as faster and with the same accuracy than the traditional ABCD criteria in the diagnosis of melanoma. In this paper a preliminary step to the automated diagnosis of melanocytic skin lesions, based on ELM 7 point checklist, is proposed. In particular, an image processing methodology focussed on finding the presence of two different parameters is set-up and characterized.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the implementation of an instrument fault detection, isolation and accommodation (IFDIA) scheme developed for real-time automotive applications based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) and inference rules.
Abstract: The paper describes the implementation of an Instrument Fault Detection, Isolation and Accommodation (IFDIA) scheme developed for real-time automotive applications. The IFDIA architecture, based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) and inference rules, was employed to locate and accommodate faults that could occur on the main sensors involved in the management of the engine operating. Many on-line tests carried out in several engine working and vehicle drive conditions, prove the goodness of the diagnostic procedure and its on-board applicability.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for the estimation of the parameters of the spectral components of a signal, also in case of harmonic interference, is characterized and compared to other methods proposed in literature.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel method for the estimation of the parameters of the spectral components of a signal, also in case of harmonic interference, is characterized and compared to other methods proposed in literature. The comparison criteria include the evaluation of the residual errors and of the uncertainties on the estimated parameters, for different multi-component signals.

TL;DR: A solution to enhance the period-measurement capability of scopes is proposed and implemented in the LeCroy WaveMaster 8620A software.
Abstract: The paper tackles the problem of signal period measurements by means of oscilloscopes. At first the performance of two last generation scopes implementing a zero-crossing algorithm is evaluated. Then, after a brief resume of alternative measurement techniques, a solution to enhance the period measurement capability of scopes is proposed and implemented in the Lecroy WaveMaster 8120A software. Finally, the results of tests carried out on different signal waveforms are reported and analyzed.
