Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of a Geriatric Consultation Team on Functional Status of Elderly Hospitalized Patients: A Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial

TL;DR: A geriatric consultation team was unable to alter the degree of functional decline among elderly patients entering an acute-care hospital, and such patients are at risk for further decline during hospitalization.
Journal ArticleDOI

A randomized, controlled clinical trial of a geriatric consultation team. Compliance with recommendations.

TL;DR: It is concluded that a geriatric consultation team contributes substantial additional input into the care of older patients and relatively high compliance can be achieved with recommendations made by a geriatrics consultation team, thereby overcoming the first barrier to the establishment of such a service.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hospital-Acquired Complications in a Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial of a Geriatric Consultation Team

TL;DR: In a broadly selected population such as this, the intensity of care available through a GCT was unable to reduce the occurrence of hospital-acquired complications, and others may be of great importance, and more targeted populations must be evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predictors of two-year post-hospitalization mortality among elderly veterans in a study evaluating a geriatric consultation team.

TL;DR: To determine predictors of 2‐year post‐hospitalization mortality in a cohort of elderly hospitalized patients originally assembled to assess the impact of a Geriatric Consultation Team (GCT), a large number of patients received GCT treatment.
