Journal ArticleDOI

DMY is a Y-specific DM-domain gene required for male development in the medaka fish

TL;DR: Rec recombinant breakpoint analysis is used to restrict the sex-determining region in medaka fish to a 530-kilobase stretch of the Y chromosome, and it is suggested that thesex-specific DMY is required for testicular development and is a prime candidate for the medaka sex-Determining gene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Cloning of Estrogen Receptors α and β in the Ovary of A Teleost Fish, the Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

TL;DR: In transient transfection assays using mammalian COS-7 cells, both tERα and tERβ showed estradiol-17β dependent activation of transcription from the estrogen-responsive ERE-Luc promoter, the first report of the presence of ERα and ERβ within a single non-mammalian vertebrate species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Two Types of Cytochrome P450 Aromatase in the Serial-sex Changing Gobiid Fish, Trimma okinawae

TL;DR: Sequence and phylogenic analyses showed that the goby P450arom forms belong to two separate CYP19 subfamilies, and findings suggest that P 450aromA, but not P450b, is involved in regulating ovarian vitellogenesis in goby.
Journal ArticleDOI

Terminal phase males stimulate ovarian function and inhibit sex change in the protogynous wrasse Thalassoma duperrey

TL;DR: It is demonstrated terminal phase males inhibit sex change regardless of their size relative to the female, which may indicate normal ovarian function whereas ovaries of other treatment groups appear quiescent or are undergoing sex change.
