Preparation and properties of GdB4 single crystals

Most of the existing data on the magnetic susceptibility of the selenides of yttrium-group r a re -ea r th elements (REEs) were obtained by Klemm as long ago as 1937 [1], and the magnetic properties of some of these compounds have not yet been studied at all. In view of this, a systematic investigation has been undertaken by the authors into the magnetic susceptibility of the selenides of yttr ium-group REEs. Magnetic susceptibility is, of course, an important character is t ic of a mater ia l . The magnitude of the effective moment of the REE ions is a measure of the valence of the metal ions in a compound investigated. The sign and magnitude of the Weiss constant provide information concerning the possible type of magnetic ordering and the relat ive magnitude of the crysta l field splitting the energy levels of the paramagnetic ion.

Magnetic susceptibility of the selenides of some yttrium-group rare-earth elements

Study of the Temperature Dependences of Magnetic Susceptibilities and7Li NMR Spectra of Ferriferrous Micas

In the temperature interval 4.2–300K and magnetic fields up to 4 T, we have investigated the electrical, thermal-electrical, thermal-magnetic, and magnetic properties of single crystals of the solid solution Pb0.8Sn0.2Te. It is shown that an enhancement of its level of structural perfection leads to the appearance of a second structural phase transition (SPT), and also to an increase in the temperature of the first structural phase transition.

Trends in the kinetic and magnetic properties of Pb 0.8 Sn 0.2 Te single crystals of high structural perfection

The results of the measurements of magnetic susceptibility, Hall effect, and resistivity of the p-type Pb1−xSnxTe solid solutions with x = 011 to 031 and a hole concentration of (31 to 79) × 1019 cm−3 are given The magnetic susceptibility was measured in a temperature range of 78 to 450 °K, the Hall effect and resistivity in a range 42 to 450 °K At T > 80 °K the Hall coefficient essentially increases with temperature, which can be explained by the presence of light and heavy hole bands The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility shows that the latter is paramagnetic for the holes, and the Pb1−xSnxTe valence band has a complex structure Near T = 300 °K the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility has peculiarities It is supposed that the latter are connected with the conversion of the g-factor to zero when the hole effective mass increases with temperature
