Current disruptions in the near-Earth neutral sheet region

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined current disruption events observed by the Charge Composition Explorer during 1985 and 1986 and found that current disruption was accompanied by large magnetic field turbulence and frequently with reversal in the sign of the field component normal to the neutral sheet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct evidence for two-stage (bimodal) acceleration of ionospheric ions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the Dynamics Explorer 1 in the top-sideside ionosphere to collect hybrid conical ion distributions and observed ion distributions were field-aligned and upward flowing, with energies up to 5 keV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Birkeland currents and charged particles in the high-latitude prenoon region: A new interpretation

TL;DR: The relationship between Birkeland currents and charged particles in the ionosphere was investigated for the period between the late morning through early afternoon, using data on simultaneous conjugate measurements of magnetic fields and particles at low altitude in the high-latitude prenoon sector, acquired on November 1, 1984 by four spacecraft, IMP 8, AMPTE CCE, DMSP F7, and HILAT as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

A multisatellite study of a Pseudo-substorm onset in the near-earth magnetotail

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the multisatellite and ground observations of two pseudo-substorm onset events that occurred successively at 0747 UT and 0811 UT, May 30, 1985, with more attention to the 0747 UL onset.
