An information communication method of transmitting a signal is provided that uses a change in luminance. The method includes determining a pattern of the change in luminance by modulating the signal to be transmitted, and transmitting the signal by a light emitter changing in luminance according to the determined pattern. The pattern of the change in luminance is a pattern in which one of two different luminance values occurs in each arbitrary position in a predetermined duration. The determining a pattern of change in luminance includes dividing the predetermined duration into four duration units, so that one of two different luminance value occurs in one duration unit of the four duration units and the other luminance value of the two different luminance value occurs in three duration units of the four duration units, the three duration units are other than the one duration unit.

Information communication method

Discrete event simulators are important scientific tools and their efficient design and execution is the subject of much research. In this paper, we propose a new approach for constructing simulators that leverages virtual machines and combines advantages from the traditional systems-based and language-based simulator designs. We introduce JiST, a Java-based simulation system that executes discrete event simulations both efficiently and transparently by embedding simulation semantics directly into the Java execution model. The system provides standard benefits that the modern Java runtime affords. In addition, JiST is efficient, out-performing existing highly optimized simulation runtimes. As a case study, we illustrate the practicality of the JiST framework by applying it to the construction of SWANS, a scalable wireless ad hoc network simulator. We simulate million node wireless networks, which represents two orders of magnitude increase in scale over what existing simulators can achieve on equivalent hardware and at the same level of detail. JiST: an efficient approach to simulation using virtual machines†

Optical fiber-based wireless systems and related components and methods are disclosed. The systems support radio frequency (RF) communications with clients over optical fiber, including Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) communications. The systems may be provided as part of an indoor distributed antenna system (IDAS) to provide wireless communication services to clients inside a building or other facility. The communications can be distributed between a head end unit (HEU) that receives carrier signals from one or more service or carrier providers and converts the signals to RoF signals for distribution over optical fibers to end points, which may be remote antenna units (RAUs). In one embodiment, calibration of communication downlinks and communication uplinks is performed to compensate for signal strength losses in the system.

Optical fiber-based distributed antenna systems, components, and related methods for calibration thereof

Method and system for chip design using remotely located resources

A multi-faceted portal site acts as a server in the context of an n-tier client/ server network, and connects electronic designers and design teams to design and verification tool and service providers on the other through a single portal site. Tools and services accessible to users through the portal site include electronic design automation (EDA) software tools, electronic component information, electronic component databases of parts (or dynamic parts), computing and processing resources, virtual circuit blocks, design expert assistance, and integrated circuit fabrication. Such tools and services may be provided in whole or part by suppliers connected to the portal site. Users accessing the portal site are presented with options in a menu or other convenient format identifying the tools and services available, and are able to more rapidly complete circuit designs by having access to a wide variety of tools and services in a single locale. The portal site may facilitate purchase, lease or other acquisition of the tools and services offered through it. The portal site tracks the movements of users through the portal site in order to learn about the design preferences and design approaches of users individually and in the aggregate. Previous actions taken by the user and by similarly-situated users may be considered in determining which information presented to the user, or in what order to present information to the user, thereby providing contextually-driven access.

Method and system for facilitating electronic circuit and chip design using remotely located resources

The SUAVE project aims to introduce object-oriented extensions to data modeling into VHDL in a way that does not disturb the existing language or its use. Designers regularly define abstract data types by using aspects of VHDL's type system, subprograms, and packages. The SUAVE approach builds on these basic mechanisms by strengthening the facilities for encapsulation and adding an inheritance mechanism. In addition to supporting object-orientation, these extended mechanisms improve the expressiveness of VHDL across the modeling spectrum, from high-level to gate-level. By choosing an incremental and evolutionary approach to extensions, SUAVE avoids major additions to the language that would complicate choice of mechanisms for expressing a design. The paper outlines the SUAVE extensions and illustrates their use through some examples. The mechanisms and examples are readily understood as incremental extensions to current modeling practices, hence "painless extension".

Analysis and Simulation of Mixed-Technology VLSI Systems

WARPED is a publicly available time warp simulation kernel. The kernel defines a standard interface to the application developer and is designed to provide a highly configurable environment for the integration of time warp optimizations. It is written in C++, uses the MPI message passing standard, and executes on a variety of parallel and distributed processing platforms. Version 2.0 of WARPED described here is distributed with several applications and the configuration can be set so that a sequential kernel implementation can be instantiated The kernel supports LP clustering, various GVT algorithms, and numerous optimizations to adaptively adjust simulation parameters at runtime.

Redesigning the WARPED simulation kernel for analysis and application development

Described are a method and system for providing information into a video record from an object in a monitored area. A video image of the monitored area is generated and information is received in a signal transmitted from the object. An image is displayed which shows the information superimposed on the video image. Optionally, the displayed image shows the information at a location in a display that corresponds to a location of the object in the display. The displayed image can include an automatic scrolling of the information overlaid on the video image or an automatic or manual scrolling of the information in a region adjacent to a region showing the video image.

Described are a vehicle optical communications system and network to exchange high bandwidth optical data between vehicles or between a vehicle and a stationary host. The vehicle optical communications system includes a communications module and a sensor having pixels for detecting an image in a field of view. Each pixel can generate a pixel data signal responsive to an incident optical data signal that includes vehicle data transmitted from a remote optical transmitter. The communications module provides remote data in response to the pixel data signals. The vehicular communications system optionally includes an optical transmitter to enable bi-directional communication. Data can be transmitted through a multi-node network of vehicular communication systems deployed in vehicles or on stationary hosts located between or around the data transmitter and intended data receiver. Simultaneous data from multiple optical transmitters within the sensor field of view are processed concurrently and maintained as separate communication channels.
