There are no large error corpora for a number of languages, despite the fact that they have multiple applications in natural language processing. The main reason underlying this situation is a high cost of manual corpora creation. In this paper we present the methods of automatic extraction of various kinds of errors such as spelling, typographical, grammatical, syntactic, semantic, and stylistic ones from text edition histories. By applying of these methods to the Wikipedia’s article revision history, we created the large and publicly available corpus of naturally-occurring language errors for Polish, called PlEWi. Finally, we analyse and evaluate the detected error categories in our corpus.

We present annotation guidelines and a web-based annotation framework developed as part of an effort to create a manually annotated
Arabic corpus of errors and corrections for various text types. Such a corpus will be invaluable for developing Arabic error correction
tools, both for training models and as a gold standard for evaluating error correction algorithms. We summarize the guidelines we
created. We also describe issues encountered during the training of the annotators, as well as problems that are specific to the Arabic
language that arose during the annotation process. Finally, we present the annotation tool that was developed as part of this project, the
annotation pipeline, and the quality of the resulting annotations.

Large Scale Arabic Error Annotation: Guidelines and Framework

In this text, we present results achieved in several natural
language processing research projects of the NLP Centre,
Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University. The central topics
of all these projects are the syntactic and semantic analysis
of natural language (NL) sentences with the concentration on
the Czech language. The leading person in these projects is
Ales Horak.

Computer Processing of Czech Syntax and Semantics

We present the current state of development of the Croatian Dependency Treebank ― with special empahsis on adapting the Prague Dependency Treebank formalism to Croatian language specifics ― and illustrate its possible applications in an experiment with dependency parsing using MaltParser. The treebank currently contains approximately 2870 sentences, out of which the 2699 sentences and 66930 tokens were used in this experiment. Three linear-time projective algorithms implemented by the MaltParser system ― Nivre eager, Nivre standard and stack projective ― running on default settings were used in the experiment. The highest performing system, implementing the Nivre eager algorithm, scored (LAS 71.31 UAS 80.93 LA 83.87) within our experiment setup. The results obtained serve as an illustration of treebank's usefulness in natural language processing research and as a baseline for further research in dependency parsing of Croatian.

Croatian Dependency Treebank: Recent Development and Initial Experiments

The paper deals with merging two complementary resources of morphological data previously existing for Czech, namely the inflectional dictionary MorfFlex CZ and the recently developed lexical network DeriNet. The MorfFlex CZ dictionary has been used by a morphological analyzer capable of analyzing/generating several million Czech word forms according to the rules of Czech inflection. The DeriNet network contains several hundred thousand Czech lemmas interconnected with links corresponding to derivational relations (relations between base words and words derived from them). After summarizing basic characteristics of both resources, the process of merging is described, focusing on both rather technical aspects (growth of the data, measuring the quality of newly added derivational relations) and linguistic issues (treating lexical homonymy and vowel/consonant alternations). The resulting resource contains 970 thousand lemmas connected with 715 thousand derivational relations and is publicly available on the web under the CC-BY-NC-SA license. The data were incorporated in the MorphoDiTa library version 2.0 (which provides morphological analysis, generation, tagging and lemmatization for Czech) and can be browsed and searched by two web tools (DeriNet Viewer and DeriNet Search tool).

Merging Data Resources for Inflectional and Derivational Morphology in Czech

The paper presents new lexicon of verb valencies for the Czech
language named VerbaLex. VerbaLex is based on three valuable
language resources for Czech, three independent electronic
dictionaries of verb valency frames. The first resource, Czech
WordNet valency frames dictionary, was created during the
Balkanet project and contains semantic roles and links to the
Czech WordNet semantic network. The other resource, VALLEX 1.0,
is a lexicon based on the formalism of the Functional
Generative Description (FGD) and was developed during the
Prague Dependency Treebank (PDT) project. The third source of
information for VerbaLex is the syntactic lexicon of verb
valencies denoted as BRIEF, which originated at FI MU Brno in
1996. The resulting lexicon, VerbaLex, comprehends all the
information found in these resources plus additional relevant
information such as verb aspect, verb synonymity, types of use
and semantic verb classes based on the VerbNet project.

After Half a Century of Slavonic Natural Language Processing

In this paper we discuss extending Czech WordNet with verb
synsets coming from the Verbalex database of Czech valency
frames. One of the main tasks involved is linking newly added
verb synsets to their Czech hypernyms and their English
counterparts in Princeton WordNet. To spare the human
lexicographers from tedious work, and to make the task more
efficient, we have developed WordNet Assistant, a software tool
that helps locate the relevant synset(s) in the already
existing structures. According to our experience so far, this
tool is of great advantage when incorporating new synsets to
Czech WordNet, and we regard it as a worthwhile facility when
extending WordNets also for other languages.
