Journal ArticleDOI
Age-related changes in the auditory brainstem response.
Dawn Konrad-Martin,Marilyn F. Dille,Garnett P. McMillan,Susan Griest,Daniel McDermott,Stephen A. Fausti,Donald F. Austin,Donald F. Austin +7 more
TL;DR: In a sample of veterans, aging substantially reduced amplitudes of all principal ABR peaks, with significant latency shifts limited to waves I and III, and the concept that aging reduces the numbers and/or synchrony of contributing auditory nerve units is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance on tests of central auditory processing by individuals exposed to high-intensity blasts.
Frederick J. Gallun,Anna C. Diedesch,Lina R. Kubli,Therese C. Walden,Robert L. Folmer,M S Lewis,M S Lewis,Daniel McDermott,Stephen A. Fausti,Stephen A. Fausti,Marjorie R. Leek +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, for some patients, blast exposure may lead to difficulties with hearing in complex auditory environments, even when peripheral hearing sensitivity is near normal limits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetes-Related Changes in Hearing
Donald F. Austin,Dawn Konrad-Martin,Dawn Konrad-Martin,Susan Griest,Susan Griest,Garnett P. McMillan,Daniel McDermott,Stephen A. Fausti,Stephen A. Fausti +8 more
TL;DR: Determine the effects on hearing of diabetes mellitus (DM) severity and investigate the role of hearing impairment in the determination of severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 5-year prospective study of diabetes and hearing loss in a veteran population.
Nancy Vaughan,Kenneth E. James,Kenneth E. James,Daniel McDermott,Susan Griest,Stephen A. Fausti +5 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that diabetic patients 60 years old or younger may show early high-frequency hearing loss similar to early presbycusis, and after age 60, difference in hearing loss between diabetic and nondiabetic patients was reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of blast exposure for central auditory function: a review.
Frederick J. Gallun,M. Samantha Lewis,M. Samantha Lewis,Robert L. Folmer,Anna C. Diedesch,Lina R. Kubli,Daniel McDermott,Therese C. Walden,Stephen A. Fausti,Stephen A. Fausti,Henry L. Lew,Marjorie R. Leek +11 more
TL;DR: It is important to maintain an updated understanding of the scope of the issues present in this population and to continue to identify those solutions that can provide measurable improvements in the lives of Veterans who have been exposed to high-intensity blasts during the course of their military service.
