Implications and outcomes of cardiac grafts refused by pediatric centers but transplanted by adult centers.
Farhan Zafar,Raheel Rizwan,Angela Lorts,Roosevelt Bryant,James S. Tweddell,Clifford Chin,David L.S. Morales +6 more
TL;DR: A significant number of adolescent donor hearts that are refused by pediatric centers result in excellent post‐transplantation outcomes in adult recipients, and one in 10 pediatric candidates died on the waitlist after refusal of these hearts used by adult recipients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimizing Postcardiac Transplantation Outcomes in Children with Ventricular Assist Devices: How Long Should the Bridge Be?
TL;DR: In general, a period of VAD support is associated with improvement in pretransplant risk factors and better posttransplant survival, which suggests that most patients bridged to transplantation by VADs should be supported for some time before listing to optimize posttrans transplant outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal Health Care Cost in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome Palliation
TL;DR: A single-center retrospective cohort of infants with HLHS who underwent Norwood procedure or hybrid Norwood from 2004 to 2014 and survived to first outpatient follow up were studied, finding significant drivers of cost included reoperation, length of hospitalization, low birthweight, and use of ECMO.
Journal ArticleDOI
Favorable Waitlist and Posttransplant Outcomes in Children and Adolescent Patients Supported With Durable Continuous-Flow Ventricular Assist Devices.
Jacob Mathew,Chet R. Villa,David L.S. Morales,C. Chin,Farhan Zafar,Joseph W. Rossano,Michael Lake,Angela Lorts +7 more
TL;DR: Small patients with a durable CFVAD had pre‐ and posttransplant outcomes similar to those of larger patients that met the industry‐recommended size for implantation.
