Pressure broadening as a many-body problem☆☆☆

TL;DR: In this paper, a T -matrix expansion is used to derive Baranger's impact approximation, which is shown to be exact in the low density limit, provided that either the mass of the foreign particles is very different from that of the radiating atoms, or the scattering is predominantly in the forward direction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oscillations of a Weakly Ionized Plasma in a Strong Electric Field

TL;DR: In this paper, the stability of a weakly ionized plasma in a strong electric field against the formation of longitudinal waves is investigated theoretically in the hydrodynamic limit, where $q$ is the wave number, and $l$ is a relaxation length related to the mean free paths of the charge carriers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comments on the Solution to the Boltzmann Equation for a Weakly Ionized Plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived hydrodynamic equations describing the motion of electrons in a weakly ionized plasma by means of the Chapman-Enskog procedure, and showed that the equations used previously by the author to describe low-frequency oscillations are obtained in either case if the electron-atom collision frequency is independent of velocity.
