Journal ArticleDOI

Chlorine-induced Injury to the Airways in Mice

TL;DR: It is concluded that chlorine exposure causes functional and pathological changes in the airways associated with oxidative stress and inducible nitric oxide synthase is involved in the induction of changes in responsiveness to methacholine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maternal Smoking and Childhood Asthma

TL;DR: The role of maternal smoking as a causal factor for the incidence of childhood asthma is still not clearly established and the odds ratio for heavy maternal smoking adjusted for known risk factors for asthma was 3.84 among persistent cases and close to one among transient cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Incidence and determinants of IgE-mediated sensitization in apprentices. A prospective study.

TL;DR: It is shown that an apprenticeship in animal-health technology carries a greater risk of developing specific sensitization than do apprenticeships in pastry-making and dental-hygiene; and atopy, respiratory symptoms in the pollen season, and number of hours in contact with rodents determine the risk of sensitization in apprentices in the animal health program.
Journal ArticleDOI

Incidence and host determinants of probable occupational asthma in apprentices exposed to laboratory animals

TL;DR: It is concluded that apprentices in animal health show a high incidence of probable OA, and that preexposure airway caliber and responsiveness as well as sensitization to pets are associated with an increased risk.
