Child mortality and public spending on health: how much does money matter?

TL;DR: This paper examined the impact on child (under 5) and infant mortality of both nonhealth (economic, cultural, and educational) factors and public spending on health and came up with two striking findings: Roughly 95 percent of cross-national variation in mortality can be explained by a country's per capita income, distribution of income, the extent of women's education, the level of ethnic fragmentation, and the predominant religion.

Getting Girls into School : Evidence from a Scholarship Program in Cambodia

TL;DR: This paper evaluated the impact of a program that gives scholarships to girls making the transition between the last year of primary school and the first year of secondary school in Cambodia and found that the scholarship program had a large, positive effect on the school enrollment and attendance of girls.
