Some embodiments provide a method that processes network data through a network. The method receives a packet destined for a network host associated with a logical datapath set implemented by a set of managed edge switching elements and a set of managed non-edge switching elements in the network. The method determines whether the packet is a known packet. When the packet is a known packet, the method forwards the packet to a managed switching element in the set of managed edge switching elements for forwarding to the network host. When the packet is not a known packet, the method forwards the packet to a managed switching element in the set of managed non-edge switching elements for further processing.

Packet processing for logical datapath sets

A method for scheduling packets in a wireless local area network begins by mapping a packet to an access category (AC) based on a user priority of the packet (102). The packet is assigned to a traffic flow (TF) (104) in a station based on the AC of the packet. A packet from the TF is placed into a transmission queue (106) for the AC. A packet from the transmission queue is selected based on a quality of service-based contention resolution function (108), and the selected packet is transmitted (114).

Packet scheduling in a wireless local area network

A flow admission control module for IP traffic types monitors network topology and usage. A new flow is not admitted if it is determined that the flow would push the utilization of available bandwidth reserved for the traffic type on a link in the associated path beyond a predetermined threshold. The admission control module may, as a result of dynamic changes to network topology capacity, re-compute the link utilization for effected active flows The admission control module may also account for protection regimes in flow admission calculations.

Flow admission control in an IP network

Some embodiments provide a network system that includes a first network and a second network. The first network includes several unmanaged switching elements. The second network includes several managed switching elements. The network system includes a particular managed switching element for communicating network data between the first and second networks.

Managed switching elements used as extenders

For a managed network including first and second managed switching elements that implement logical data path sets, some embodiments provide a method that establishes, from the first managed switching element, a network tunnel through a network to the second managed switching element. The network includes a set of unmanaged switching elements. Through the network tunnel, the network forwards logical network data to the set of unmanaged switching elements for the set of unmanaged switching elements to forward to the second managed switching element. The logical network is hidden from the set of unmanaged switching elements when the logical network data is forwarded through the tunnel.

Use of tunnels to hide network addresses

Policy-based, on-demand provisioning of optical transport bandwidth is disclosed. In one of many possible embodiments, a system is provided for policy-based, on-demand provisioning of optical transport bandwidth. The system includes a layer-specific operation support subsystem (OSS) configured to manage network elements that form a sub-network over an optical transport network. The optical transport network provides bandwidth-on-demand provisioning capabilities. The layer-specific OSS includes one or more predefined bandwidth provisioning policies. The layer-specific OSS is configured to selectively request on-demand provisioning of bandwidth on the sub-network based on the predefined bandwidth provisioning policies.

Systems and methods for policy-based intelligent provisioning of optical transport bandwidth

A device receives, from a customer, a request for an end-to-end path through a network, determines parameters of a query based on the request and path criteria, and executes the query on a database of network elements capable of being included in the end-to-end path. The device also selects one or more of the network elements provided in the database based on results of the query, and reserves, in the database, the one or more selected network elements for the end-to-end path.

Defining an end-to-end path for a network service

A network upgrade tool creates an upgrade project designating a source digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), a target DSLAM, and an upgrade type and determines whether the source DSLAM and target DSLAM are eligible for upgrade based on the upgrade type. At least one new digital subscriber line (DSL) path associated with the target DSLAM is identified when the source DSLAM and target DSLAM are eligible for upgrade. Pre-provisionable elements associated with the at least one new DSL path are identified and the identified pre-provisionable elements are provisioned prior to transition from at least one existing DSL path to the at least one new DSL path. A cutover selection is received that indicates that physical network changes associated with the target DSLAM have been made and non-pre-provisioned elements are provisioned following receipt of the cutover selection.
