In today's interconnected multicultural world, citizens' differential levels of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) can play an important role in the amount of enthusiasm, time, and efforts they invest in second or foreign language (L2) communication and learning. ICC has recently found its way into L2 theory and research. Relationship Between Intercultural Communicative Competence and L2-Learning Motivation of Iranian EFL Learners

Examining the effects of celebrity trust on advertising credibility, brand credibility, and corporate credibility

Medical and nursing students are expected to be more competent in terms of being acquainted with different cultures and approaching culturally, compared to many other disciplines. This descriptive study was designed to evaluate the cultural sensitivity levels of nursing and medical students and the affecting factors. One hundred and eleven nursing and 164 medical students were included in the study. The data were collected by using a questionnaire questioning the variables that were thought to affect the cultural sensitivity of students and the intercultural sensitivity scale. According to results of the study; it was observed that university students receiving education in the fields of medicine and nursing had good cultural sensitivity levels and those interacting with people from other cultures and speaking a foreign language had significantly higher cultural sensitivity levels (p < 0.05). According to these results, it was thought that it would be useful to develop plannings aimed at increasing the language proficiency in university curriculums and abroad experience opportunities of students, and to design qualitative studies based on interviews and observations aimed at examining the factors affecting the intercultural sensitivity.

Cultural sensitivity levels of university students receiving education in health disciplines.

This paper reports on a survey conducted at a university in Beijing, China into students’ intercultural knowledge. Surveys with both close-ended and open-ended questions were distributed to the students and questionnaires with open-ended questions were also sent to the international teachers. By means of quantitative and qualitative research methods, this paper (a) analyzes the problems the surveyed students have with their intercultural communicative competence (b) examines the reasons for the students’ failures in intercultural communication and (c) explores what intercultural knowledge should be taught in class.

Intercultural Communication Competence: a study about the Intercultural Sensitivity of university students based on their education and international experiences

Owing to the improvements in mass communication technologies in the last few decades, the role of celebrities in our lives has changed dramatically. In the contemporary culture of mass media and Internet, celebrities, and the verbal and visual messages they communicate reach millions of people worldwide. Because of this widespread exposure, there has been a significant increase in the influence of celebrities, and they have become a very effective medium in communicating marketers’ messages. In consideration of the increasing importance and effectiveness of celebrities in communicating the marketing messages, this study aims to explore the cultural influences on the evaluations of young consumers regarding celebrities. Our exploratory research sheds light to the traits which are evaluated as favorable / unfavorable by young consumers, and which may therefore play a key role in the success of celebrity endorsements.

Celebrity Influences on Young Consumers: Guiding the Way to the Ideal Self

Changing social norms regarding the role of women in society is fostered by women's participation in the workforce. Hence, changing role of working women in business life leads the transformation of gender stereotypes and roles. Women alter their gender role orientation according to the requirements of male-dominated business life; however, the unchanged role in private life leads to sex-role conflict. This study investigates the role of consumption as a key component of identity in the process of managing sex-role conflict in a non-Western cultural context. In-depth interviews were conducted with working women with various cultural and educational backgrounds. According to the findings of the study, women are forming compatible identities, which reduce the perceived sex-role conflict and consumption patterns are changing to suit the requirements of their new ways of living.
