Journal ArticleDOI
An integrated perfusion machine preserves injured human livers for 1 week.
Dilmurodjon Eshmuminov,Dustin Becker,Dustin Becker,Lucia Bautista Borrego,Max Hefti,Max Hefti,Martin J. Schuler,Martin J. Schuler,Catherine Hagedorn,Xavier Muller,Matteo Mueller,Christopher H. Onder,Christopher H. Onder,Rolf Graf,Achim Weber,Philipp Dutkowski,Philipp Rudolf von Rohr,Philipp Rudolf von Rohr,Pierre-Alain Clavien +18 more
TL;DR: A liver perfusion machine that integrates multiple core physiological functions, including automated management of glucose levels and oxygenation, waste-product removal and hematocrit control is developed in a stepwise fashion using pig livers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel Real-time Prediction of Liver Graft Function During Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion Before Liver Transplantation
Xavier Muller,Andrea Schlegel,Philipp Kron,Dilmurodjon Eshmuminov,Michael Würdinger,David Meierhofer,Pierre-Alain Clavien,Philipp Dutkowski +7 more
TL;DR: Assessment of flavin, a marker of mitochondrial complex I injury, in the perfusate provides a fast prediction of liver graft function and loss during ex situ MP before implantation, which may have high clinical relevance, as liver grafts from extended DBD or DCD donors carry considerable risks for recipients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meta-analysis of associating liver partition with portal vein ligation and portal vein occlusion for two-stage hepatectomy.
Dilmurodjon Eshmuminov,Dimitri A. Raptis,Michael Linecker,Andrea Wirsching,Mickael Lesurtel,Mickael Lesurtel,P.-A. Clavien +6 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to compare available strategies using a two‐stage approach in extended hepatectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systematic review and meta-analysis of postoperative pancreatic fistula rates using the updated 2016 International Study Group Pancreatic Fistula definition in patients undergoing pancreatic resection with soft and hard pancreatic texture.
Dilmurodjon Eshmuminov,Marcel André Schneider,Christoph Tschuor,Dimitri A. Raptis,Patryk Kambakamba,Xavier Muller,Mickael Lesurtel,Pierre-Alain Clavien +7 more
TL;DR: A widely accepted definition of PT is lacking and a correlation with the risk of POPF is based on subjective evaluation, which is still acceptable, and classification of PT into 2-groups is more reasonable than classification into 3-groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transplantation of a human liver following 3 days of ex situ normothermic preservation
Pierre-Alain Clavien,Philipp Dutkowski,Matteo Mueller,Dilmurodjon Eshmuminov,Lucia Bautista Borrego,Achim Weber,Beat Muellhaupt,Richard X. Sousa Da Silva,Brian R Burg,Philipp Rudolf von Rohr,Martin J. Schuler,Dustin Becker,Max Hefti,Mark W. Tibbitt +13 more
TL;DR: The transplantation of a human liver discarded by all centers is reported, which could be preserved for several days using ex situ normothermic machine perfusion and exhibited normal function, with minimal reperfusion injury and the need for only a minimal immunosuppressive regimen.
