Developments in large-scale coastal flood hazard mapping

TL;DR: In this paper, the contribution of waves to the total water level, improved inundation modeling, and an open, physics-based framework for coastal flood mapping is presented. But, the authors do not consider the impact of the wave contribution in the extreme total water levels (TWL).
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding epistemic uncertainty in large-scale coastal flood risk assessment for present and future climates

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine key sources of epistemic uncertainty in the coastal flood risk (CFR) modelling chain: (i) the inclusion and interaction of different hydraulic components leading to extreme sea level (ESL), (ii) the underlying uncertainty in digital elevate model (DEM), (iii)flood defence information, and (iv) the assumptions behind the use of depth-damage functions that express vulnerability, and different climate change projections.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Stress-Testing Alternative Water Quality Sensor Designs under Cyber-Physical Attack Scenarios

TL;DR: In this article , a stress-testing methodology that focuses on assessing the performance of a contamination warning system, designed with alternative water quality (WQ) sensor placement strategies against cyber-physical attacks is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

NEXTGEN: A serious game showcasing circular economy in the urban water cycle.

TL;DR: The NextGen Serious Game as mentioned in this paper is a simulation based online educational tool with a digital user interface that allows participants to explore the implications of applying circular economy strategies such as "Reduce" (for waste), Reuse (for materials), and Recovery (of energy though biogas generation) to the water urban cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Water Hardness in the Eye of the Beholder: Exploring Links between Central Softening, Customer Perception and Behavior, and Citizen Science

TL;DR: In this article , the authors studied the effect of a central softener on the perception of hardness and lime deposition of drinking water in the Flemish Waarmaarde area of Belgium.
