Journal ArticleDOI
Biphasic calcium phosphate bioceramics: preparation, properties and applications.
TL;DR: The potential uses of BCP ceramic as scaffold for tissue engineering, drug delivery system and carrier of growth factors, and as an injectible biomaterial in a polymer carrier are demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and risk indicators for destructive periodontal diseases in 3 urban American minority populations.
Ronald G. Craig,Robert J. Boylan,Julie K. Yip,Patrick Bamgboye,James Koutsoukos,Dindo Q. Mijares,Jacqueline Ferrer,Mohammed Imam,Sigmund S. Socransky,Anne D. Haffajee +9 more
TL;DR: Although greater destructive periodontal disease prevalence and severity were found in the African-American group, the results suggest that environmental and demographic variables, such as occupational status, may have a greater influence on risk indicators associated with disease prevalenceand progression in these populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Calcium Phosphate Coating and rhBMP-2 on Bone Regeneration in Rabbit Calvaria Using Poly(propylene fumarate) Scaffolds
Mahrokh Dadsetan,Teja Guda,M. Brett Runge,Dindo Q. Mijares,Racquel Z. LeGeros,John P. LeGeros,David T. Silliman,Lichun Lu,Joseph C. Wenke,Pamela R. Brown Baer,Michael J. Yaszemski +10 more
TL;DR: The results obtained in this study suggest that the coated scaffold platform demonstrated a synergistic effect between calcium phosphate coatings and rhBMP-2 delivery and may provide a promising platform for the functional restoration of large bone defects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum IgG antibody response to periodontal pathogens in minority populations: relationship to periodontal disease status and progression.
Ronald G. Craig,Robert J. Boylan,Julie K. Yip,Dindo Q. Mijares,Mohammed Imam,Sigmund S. Socransky,Martin A. Taubman,Anne D. Haffajee +7 more
TL;DR: Elevated serum IgG antibody to P. gingivalis reflects destructive periodontal disease status, and may be considered a risk factor for disease progression in these ethnic/racial populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progression of destructive periodontal diseases in three urban minority populations: role of clinical and demographic factors
Ronald G. Craig,Julie K. Yip,Dindo Q. Mijares,Racquel Z. LeGeros,Sigmund S. Socransky,Anne D. Haffajee +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that variables associated with ethnicity/race, such as occupational status, are largely responsible for the observed disparity in destructive periodontal disease progression in these populations.
