Journal ArticleDOI

Composite electrodes made of Pt nanoparticles deposited on carbon nanotubes grown on fuel cell backings

TL;DR: In this article, a sulfonic acid-silicate intermediate was used to deposit Pt particles on the MWCNTs in order to obtain an electrode that could be used in electrocatalysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fe-Based Catalysts for Oxygen Reduction in PEM Fuel Cells Pretreatment of the Carbon Support

TL;DR: In this article, the surface nitrogen content at the surface of the catalysts was measured by XPS and the results were rationalized in terms of N content at surface of catalysts; the larger the N content, the better the catalytic activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Pt nanoparticles deposited onto carbon nanotubes grown on carbon paper and evaluation of this electrode for the reduction of oxygen.

TL;DR: Although the electroactive Pt surface area is larger for commercial electrodes of similar loadings, Pt/MWCNT electrodes largely outperform the commercial electrode for the oxygen reduction reaction in GDE experiments using H2SO4 at pH 1.7 V and have a lower performance at lower voltages.

Depositing metal particles on carbon nanotubes

TL;DR: In this article, metal catalyst particles are deposited on carbon nanotubes by preparing a silane solution of a metal catalyst salt, e.g., platinum or ruthenium chloride, immersing an electrically conducting substrate carrying a nanotube in the silane mixture to yield a composite structure of substrate, nano-structures and catalyst.
