The work is designed to develop a pick and place robotic arm vehicle with a softcatching gripperthat is designed to avoid extra pressure on the suspected object (Like Bombs) for safetyreasons. The robotic vehicle is android application controlled for remoteoperation. At the transmitting end using android application device, commands are sentto the receiver to control the movement of the robot either to move forward, backwardand left or right etc. At the receiving end four motors are interfaced to the microcontrollerwhere two of them are used for arm and gripper movement of the robot while the othertwo are for the body movement of the vehicle. The main advantage of this robot is its softcatching arm that is designed to avoid extra pressure on the suspected object for safetyreasons. The android application device transmitter acts as a remote control that hasthe advantage of adequate range, while the receiver end Bluetooth device is connectedto the microcontroller to drive DC motors via motor driver IC for necessary operation.Remote operation is achieved by any smart-phone/Tablet etc., with Android OS; upon aGUI (Graphical User Interface) based touch screen operation.

Wireless Control of Pick and Place Robotic Arm Using an Android Application

In this paper we develop a wireless communication human machine interface (HMI) system, which uses a smart-phone. This HMI has some advantages over the other HMIs, such as it is small, cheap, and space sensing. It uses the accelerometer and the gyroscope of the smartphone to generate six commands to control a robot via Wi-Fi network. The experiment results show that our HMI is convenient and effective for remote control.

Smartphone-Based Human Machine Interface with Application to Remote Control of Robot Arm

For wireless control between smart devices, recent studies have mainly used Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology. However, for Wi-Fi, the user requires extra infrastructure such as an access point. For Bluetooth, both users must have the same mobile operating system (OS), and several seconds elapse when pairing the smart devices. This paper proposes a near wireless control technology between smart devices using a microphone and the speaker of a smart device at near distances, to solve these problems. The control signals of the proposed method use the inaudible high frequencies of an audible domain that cannot be recognized by humans. The other smart device receives the control signals and then executes the specific function. Currently, if only a high frequency is used for the control signal, errors owing to unexpected sounds in the environment can occur. Therefore, our method uses two types of frequency signals. One signal is based on an audio file of the signals, and the other signal is a low-latency audio frequency. To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed method, we experimented with a near wireless-controlled camera in various situations and at various distances. The success rate was about 96 %. Then, we conducted an experiment to determine whether or not the people located around the device recognized the control signals when we used it. The percentage of people who were not conscious of the control signals was 97 %. Therefore, the proposed method is a useful technique for many types of near wireless-control between smart devices.

Near wireless-control technology between smart devices using inaudible high-frequencies

In order to remotely control a robot with a small size, cheap and space sensing device, in this paper we develop a smart phone-based human machine interface (HMI). It uses the accelerometer and the gyroscope of the smart phone to generate six commands. By calculating the inverse kinematics, the reference angles are send to robot arm via Wi-Fi network. The novel HMI has many advantages over the others. The experiment results show that our HMI is convenient and effective for remote control of robot arm.

Tele-manipulation of robot arm with smartphone

In this work, Android operating system based robot platform and smart phone operated control and monitoring system are introduced. To implement this work, Cortex-A8 series S5PV210 embedded processor and Android operating system are correlated. The robot has an autonomous and manual travel and is controlled by only smart phone. In the Android OS (Operating System), the camera image is compressed to JPEG format and the image file is delivered to a smart phone through 802.11x wireless LAN communication which utilizes TCP/IP communication socket programming. Later, the transferred image data are converted into BMP format, which enables a real time image display.

Implementation of smartphone environment remote control and monitoring system for Android operating system-based robot platform

For an education purpose between an education robot and user, the robot needs to identify the location of the user and follow the user when the user stays or moves. In this work, a distance measurement scheme between a robot and user using ultrasound sensors and RF modules is introduced. Also, algorithms following the moving user with certain distance are addressed and those applications to the developed robot were implemented, showing the results including distance measurement and user-following. The robot control system is totally based on Android system, which makes the robot operation convenient and compact.
