The Role of Government Affiliation in Explaining Firm Innovativeness and Profitability in Emerging Countries: Evidence from China.

This paper attempts to discuss the role of coal mining in enhancing environmental development in southwest China since 2000 from local and regional perspectives. The case study undertaken in the Beipan River Basin, Guizhou revealed that: (1) some coal mines are positively moving towards sustainable development; (2) decoupling, a circular economy, scientific innovation, economic transformation, and industrial diversification have proven useful theories and practices for promoting a sustainable mining industry; (3) China’s western development strategy (WDS) has had a powerful influence on the coal mining in southwest China; and, (4) coal industry can contribute to a better environment from the local to the global level. However, some challenges persist e.g., lack of post-decommission management, poor pollution control, lack of technology for solid waste, and socioeconomic and environmental pressure on the coal industry in southwest China. The author argues that the future role of coal mining in relation to environmental development will largely depend upon the national government’s guiding ideology vis-a-vis development, enforcement of laws and policies, public participation and industry’s corporate social responsibility.

Knowledge Sharing in an Emerging Industry Cluster: A Saudi Arabian Case Study

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The main goal of the article is to diagnose the current position of China in the international arena and to identify the strategic challenges that the government in Beijing will have to face within the currently implemented 13th Five -Year Plan. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND RESEARCH METHODS: Article has a descriptive and analytical nature. The purposes of this study required constructive criticism of literature and making an analysis of selected statistical data provided by international institutions.     THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The state of Chinese economy was presented, noting the gradual change of development model and implemented internal reforms. The next part includes the outline of the main international initiatives which are aimed at strengthening the political and economic position of the PRC. Then  the strategic challenges for the PRC, which condition its further development were presented. The final part of this article includes a summary and conclusions. RESEARCH RESULTS: Firstly, the issue of economic relations built by China is strictly subordinated to the government policy, which is reflected in the 5-year plans, catalogues of preferred inward and outward foreign investment and the initiatives taken at international level. Secondly, the further pursuit of China to become a superpower will require profound changes, mostly related to the liberalization of investment policy, reforms of state-owned enterprises, further internationalization of RMB and demographic issues. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Despite the growing opinion among scientists, politicians and journalists, China is not yet holding the leading position in the political and economic world, although it should be noted the weakening role of the United States and EU in certain regions of the world.

In this paper, the method of generalized moments of data and systems for 101 counties in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces is used to analyze the impact of industrial agglomeration and industrial structure upgrading on county economic growth. The real diagnosis result indicated that, the industry gathers with the industrial structure promotes has the forward function to the county territory economic growth rate, in the sample time that had not discovered the industry gathers to the economic growth existence non-linearity influence. On the other hand, the industrial structure promotes to the county territory economy long-term growth power is stronger, later period should break through the present stage in the manufacturing industry mature county territory through the industrial structure promotion strategy the industry to glide down.

Research on the Impact of Industrial Agglomeration and Structural Upgrade on County Economic Growth under the New Normal Condition—Based on the Empirical Study of 101 Counties in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces

Based on the research articles about the strategic emerging industries in China of Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) on http://www.cnki.net/ from 2010 to 2014, we analyze the research literature from quantitative and qualitative perspective and prospect the future research directions of the strategic emerging industries in China. The research data shows that the studies on strategic emerging industries in China have developed rapidly these years, the high-level research results are increasingly abundant, but some problems should be further studied. And we believe that the researchers should focus on the empirical studies based on the development of the practices, and make efforts to construct a whole systematic research framework and pay more attention to the studies on strategic human resources.
