Reinforcement with carbon nanotubes in aluminum matrix composites
TL;DR: In this paper, the reinforcing efficiency of MWNTs in the composites follows the volume fraction rule of discontinuous fibers in the grain size range down to 70nm, which is the same as in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Application of quasicrystalline particles as a strengthening phase in Mg–Zn–Y alloys
TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation behavior of fine-grained magnesium alloys reinforced by quasicrystalline particles was investigated and compared with that of commercial AZ31, AZ61 and AZ91 alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reinforcing effects of carbon nanotubes in structural aluminum matrix nanocomposites
TL;DR: In this paper, the reinforcing effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are investigated for aluminum matrix composites, and a composite containing 4.5 vol% multiwalled CNTs exhibits a yield strength of 620 MPa and fracture toughness of 61 MPa·mm1/2, the values of which are nearly 15 and seven times higher than those of the corresponding starting aluminum, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deformation behavior of aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with few-layer graphene
S.E. Shin,Donghyun Bae +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the structural and mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 2024 (Al2024)/few-layer graphene (FLG) composites produced by ball milling and hot rolling have been investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanical and thermal properties of nanocarbon-reinforced aluminum matrix composites at elevated temperatures
S.E. Shin,Y.J. Ko,Donghyun Bae +2 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the mechanical and thermal properties of aluminum alloy 2024 (Al2024) matrix composites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) or few-layered graphene (FLG) in the temperature range of 250-430°C.
