Energy management and dynamic control in Composite Energy Storage System for micro-grid applications

Abstract: Micro-grids that are infrastructure for implementation and utilization of renewable energy sources require high-power-density, high-energy-density storage. Composite Energy Storage System (CESS) is a combination of various energy storage technologies that offers not only above performance but also high efficiency and long life. For system management of CESS, problems of energy management and dynamic control are questioned. In this paper, we propose the Energy Manager that support both short-term and long-term requirements of the CESS. Dynamic control of specific Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converters in order to provide compatibility with commands from Energy Manager is presented.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Composite energy storage system with flexible energy management capability for micro-grid applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a composite energy storage system (CESS) comprising of battery and ultracapacitor as high energy density storage and high power density storage respectively to meet the above mentioned requirements.

A simple design of DC power system with multiple source-side converters to operate stably underconstant power load

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple design with cascade control for individual Buck converter, Boost converter and ICFFB converter to operate stably under constant power load is presented, and integration of these converters into the DC power system and solution for subsystem dynamic interactions are analyzed and verified by simulation.
