La carga organica aplicada fue de 4,0; 2,3; 6,7; 6,3 y 16,4 gDQO/m 2 .d, correspondientes a los TRH de 24, 16, 12, 8 y 6 h. El reactor poseia un volumen util de 9,7 L y un area total de contacto de los discos de 24.430 cm 2 . Los parametros evaluados fueron los siguientes: pH, alcalinidad total, demanda quimica de oxigeno total (DQO T ), ortofosfatos (P-PO 4 -3 ) y las formas de nitrogeno (NO 2 - +NO 3 - , NH 4 + y N-Kjeldahl), segun la metodologia estandar. El sistema mostro una alta eficiencia en la remocion de la materia organica presente, obteniendose porcentajes de remocion de DQO de 74,5; 71,9; 92,3; 73,3 y 44,6% con respecto a los TRH. El sistema exhibio la mas alta eficiencia en la remocion de materia organica, en terminos de DQO (92,3%), al TRH de 12 h (6,7 ± 1,8 g DQO/m 2 .d). Para este mismo TRH, los valores de DQO y pH del efluente se mostraron por debajo de los valores permisibles de descarga a cuerpos de aguas superficiales, exigidos por la normativa venezolana, con lo cual se establece la viabilidad de este tipo de tratamiento biologico para efluentes camaroneros

The efficiency of an adsorption column packed with granular activated carbon, prepared from sugar-cane bagasse, for the removal of phenol, 2-chlorophenol, 2-nitrophenol and 2,4-dimethylphenol, from the effluent of an UASB reactor was evaluated. Tests were carried out applying hydraulic residence time (TRH) of 0,067 y 0,186 d, obtaining better results with a TRH of 0,186 d. The saturation of the adsorbent bed was reached after 12 h and 20 h of continuous operation respectively, for each applied TRH, after which the presence of toxic compounds was detected in the effluent of the column. With the applied treatment, removal percentages in DQO of 67, 09% and 73,93% respectively was reached, represented this DQO for compound organic different from the toxics of interest, not retained when going the residual water throw the column. The investigation allowed demonstrating the applicability of the process of adsorption for the elimination of toxic organic compounds from a wastewater.
