Das Prinzip der Orbitalkontrolle pericyclischer Reaktionen vertiefte das Verstandnis vom Reaktionsgeschehen und bot eine uberlegene Klassifikation dieser einstufigen Prozesse. Der elektrocyclische Ringschlus vom Typ Pentadienyl-Anion ⇌ Cyclopentenyl-Anion ist relativ unbedeutend in All-Kohlenstoff-Systemen und beim Stammkohlenwasserstoff nicht einmal realisiert. Fur eine Fulle von Ringschlussen und Ringoffnungen in der Hetero-Reihe eignet sich diese elektrocyclische Reaktion jedoch als Ordnungsprinzip. Dazu ersetzt man die Kohlenstoffatome des Pentadienyl-Anions schrittweise durch Heteroatome. Dieser Austausch kann isoionisch, d. h. unter Erhaltung des Anioncharakters, oder isoelektronisch vorgenommen werden. Ein isoelektronischer Ersatz von CR2 in 1-Position gegen NR2 oder OR sowie von CR in 3-Position gegen NR oder O ermoglicht es, eine ladungsfreie Grenzformel der offenkettigen Spezies zu schreiben; die Ladungswanderung bei der Elektrocyclisierung hat die Korrelation mit einem cyclischen Zwitterion zur Folge. Umgekehrt fuhrt der isoelektronische Austausch von CR in 2-Stellung gegen NR oder O zum konjugierten 1,3-Dipol, der zum ladungsfreien ungesattigten Funfring cyclisiert. Bei zweifachem isoelektronischem Austausch findet das ganze Geschehen im Kation statt. Ausgewahlte Beispiele machen mit Systematik und Triebkraft dieser elektrocyclischen Reaktion vertraut.

Durch Addition von Diazomethan an die Benzoloxide 13a–d werden - unter dem Einflus des Oxiransauerstoffs in der Regel stereoselektiv - die cis-Mono-(16a,c,d) und die cis-bzw. trans-Bis-1-pyrazoline 17a–c bzw. 19b gewonnen. Die Photolyse von 16a, c, d, von 17b,c und 19b verlauft einheitlich zu den Oxa-bis-σ-homobenzolen 20a,c,d bzw. den cis/trans-Oxa-tris-σ-homobenzolen 24b,c und 30b. Im Falle des Diesters 17a konkurriert mit der Bildung von 24a bei der direkten Lichtanregung H-Wanderung zu 20e, bei der aceton-sensibilisierten Energie ubertragung transannulare C-C-Verknupfung zu 25a. Die cis-Oxa-bis-σ-homobenzole 20a–-e isomerisieren thermisch rasch und — mit Ausnahme von 20c — reversibel zu den 4H-Oxocinen 21a–-e, die cis-Oxa-tris-σ-homobenzole 24a–-c ausnahmslos irreversibel zu den 4,7-Dihydrooxoninen 31a–c. Die vergleichbar gespannten trans-Isomeren 30a, b hingegen sind thermisch sehr viel stabiler und zersetzen sich oberhalb 180–200°C unspezifisch. Kinetische und thermo-dynamische Parameter dieser 2σ 2π- und 3σ 3π-Isomerisierungen sowie die fur die Oxa-bis- und Oxa-tris-σ/π-homobenzol-Strukturen charakteristischen spektroskopischen Daten werden prasentiert, die Klassifizierung der Umwandlungen 24a–c 31a–c als [σ2s + σ2s + σ2s]-Cycloreversionen ausfuhrlich diskutiert.



Oxa-bis-and Oxa-tris-σ/π-homobenzenes Syntheses and σ/π-Isomerizations.



Addition of diazomethane to the benzene oxides 13a–d yields – under the cis-directing influence of the oxirane oxygen atom often stereoselectively – the cis-mono (16a, c, d), the cis-bis-(17a–c) and the trans-bis-1-pyrazolines 19b. Photolysis of 16a,c,d of 17b,c and of 19b proceeds exclusively to the oxa-bis-σ-homobenzenes 20a, c, d and the cis/trans-oxa-tris-σ-homobenzenes 24b, c and 30b, respectively. In the case of the diester 17a formation of 24a faces competition by H-migration (20e) upon direct excitation, by transannular C-C-bridging (25a) upon acetone-sensitized excitation. The cis-oxa-bis-σ-homobenzenes 20a–e thermally isomerize rapidly — and with the exception of 20c — reversibly to the 4H-oxocines 21a–e, the cis-oxa-tris-σ-homobenzenes 24a–c irreversibly to the 4,7-dihydrooxonines 31a–c. In contrast, the equally strained trans-isomers 30a, b are thermally much more stable and decompose above 180–200°C in an unspecific way. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for these 2σ 2π-and 3σ 3π isomerization reactions as well as the spectroscopic data typical of the oxa-bis-and oxa-tris-σ/π-homobenzene structures are presented, the classification of the transformations 24a–c 31a–c as [σ2s + σ2s + σ2s]-cycloreversions is discussed.

Oxa-bis- und Oxa-tris-σ/π-homobenzole Synthesen und σ → π-Isomerisierungen

Die direkte – nicht aber die aceton-sensibilisierte –Lichtanregung (λ > 280 nm) der Tricyclo[3.2.2.02,4]nonadien-diester 6a – c bzw. der Bis-trifluormethyl-Derivate 6d,e (λ > 230 nm) liefert in 60–80 proz. bzw. 90 proz. Ausbeute die aus einer [2π + 2π]-Cycloaddition resultierenden Pentacyclen 7a – e. Eine [2π + 2σ]-Reaktion unter Beteiligung des Cyclopropanringes (zu 8a – e) ist daneben nicht nachweisbar. Gleichermasen einheitlich (isolierte Ausbeute > 90%) verlauft die [2π + 2π]-Cyclisierung im 3-Oxa-Diester 10 (zu 11). Die Tris-σ-homobenzole 7a – e bzw. 11 werden thermisch ausschlieslich unter 2σ 2π-Spaltung zu den Ausgangsdienen der Photoreaktionen 6a – e bzw. 10 isomerisiert (Ea (7a) = 22 kal/mol; A = 2.2·1012s−1). Am Beispiel des Diesters 7a bzw. der Dicarbonsaure 7g wurde die Addition von HCl und CH3OH bzw. Wasser studiert, wobei selektiv die Addukte 13 und 14 (Verhaltnis 9:1) in durchweg guten Ausbeuten gewonnen werden. Bei sterischer Behinderung des ublichen Angriffs auf die unsubstituierte Kante des Bishomocyclobutadien-Partialgerusts in 7a setzt sich TCA zu den 1:1-Addukten 15 und 16 um.



[2π+2π]-Photocycloaddition Reactions in Tricyclo[3.2.2.02.4]nonadiene Derivatives. Synthesis of Singly Bridged Tris-σ-homobenzene Compounds



The direct – not, however the acetone sensitized –excitation (λ > 280 nm) of the tricyclo-[3.2.2.02,4]nonadiene diester 6a – c and the bis-trifluoromethyl derivatives 6d, e (Δ > 230 nm), resp., yields (60–90%) the pentacycles 7a – e resulting from a [2π + 2π]-cycloaddition reaction. A [2π + 2σ]-addition with participation of the cyclopropane ring (leading to 8a – e) is not observed. With comparable selectivity (> 90% isolated yield) the [2π + 2π]-cyclisation takes place in the 3-oxa-diester 10 (to 11). The tris-σ-homobenzene compounds 7a – e and 11, resp. are thermally isomerized exclusively in a 2σ 2π-cleavage to the starting dienes 6a – e and 10, resp. (Ea (7a) = 22 kcal/mole; A = 2.2·1012 S−1-1). As exemplary cases the addition of HCl, CH3OH and H2O to the diester 7a and to the dicarboxylic acid 7g, resp., has been studied; in a rather selective way the adducts 13 and 14 (ratio 9:1) are formed in good yields. With the usual attack upon the nonsubstituted edge of the bishomocyclobutadiene partial structure in 7a being sterically hindered, tetracyanoethylene forms the 1:1 adducts 15 and 16.

[2π + 2π]‐Photocycloadditionen in Tricyclo[3.2.2.02,4]nonadien‐Derivaten. Synthese einfach überbrückter Tris‐σ‐homobenzol‐Verbindungen

Exemplifying with the 4.5-dicarbomethoxy oxepin 6a the authors describe an oxepin synthesis from furanes and acetylenic dienophiles via Diels-Alder reaction (4a), photochemical oxanorbornadiene-oxaquadricyclane transformation (4a 5a), and thermal 3σ 3π opening of the highly strained oxaquadricyclane 5a. With dimethylacetylenedicarboxylate, methylpropiolate, maleic anhydride, and di-methoxycarbonyl-oxanorbornadiene (4a) 5a yields the 1:1 adducts 19a, 19b, 22, 23 and 26 (unstable) by strictly stereospecific addition to the α-positions of the oxygen bridge. With the same dienophiles the oxepin 6a reacts only through its valence-tautomeric benzene-oxide form 7a giving stereospecifically 27, 29, 30 and 31. No definite conclusions are drawn with regard to the mechanistic implications of the photostep 4a 5a, the thermal 3σ 3π-transformation 5a 6a/7a, and the bishomofurane cycloaddition reactions. Scope and limitations of this oxepin synthesis are briefly discussed.
