Cervical cancer, a disease of poverty: mortality differences between urban and rural areas in Mexico

TL;DR: CC mortality is associated with poverty-related factors, including lack of formal education, unemployment, low socio-economic level, rural residence and insufficient access to healthcare, which indicates the need for eradication of regional differences in cancer detection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) L1 Serum Antibodies and the Risk of Subsequent Oral HPV Acquisition in Men: The HIM Study

TL;DR: Oral rinses for HPV DNA and baseline sera for HPV-6, -11, -16, and -18 L1 antibodies and Cox models revealed that men with circulating antibodies to HPV- 6, - 11, - 16, or -18 were not less likely to acquire type-specific oral HPV than men without antibodies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of baseline covariates on the immunogenicity of a quadrivalent (types 6, 11, 16, and 18) human papillomavirus virus-like-particle vaccine.

TL;DR: Age at vaccination initiation was inversely proportional to the vaccine-induced anti-HPV response, and data support vaccination with quadrivalent HPV vaccine across a broad range of baseline subject characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nutritional Determinants of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Risk: A Case-Control Study in Mexico

TL;DR: The diet of the Mexican population is rich in carbohydrates; in Mexico corn intake is the main energy source, and vitamins such as retinol and vitamin D were shown to be associated with this neoplasm in a protective way; nevertheless, further studies are necessary to allow us to corroborate the results.
