Journal ArticleDOI

Infrared spectra of obscuring dust tori around active galactic nuclei. I - Calculational method and basic trends

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a 2D radiative transfer algorithm to calculate the thermally reradiated infrared spectra of the compact dust tori which are thought to surround many AGN.
Journal ArticleDOI

Infrared Spectra of Obscuring Dust Tori around Active Galactic Nuclei. II. Comparison with Observations

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed comparison of the model predictions with published observations was made, and the authors found good agreement between the predictions and the observed continuum of NGC 1068, the 3.5-10.5 μm colors of type 2 Seyfert galaxies, and several examples of anisotropy in the IR emission from AGNs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiation-pressure-supported obscuring tori around active galactic nuclei

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the radiation force acting on the torus and find that on the inner edge of a torus, it is about 350 l(E) times the gravitational force of the nucleus, where l is the Eddington ratio.
