Journal ArticleDOI
Two new cellulolytic fungal species isolated from a 19 th -century art collection
Carolina Coronado-Ruiz,Roberto Avendaño,Efraín Escudero-Leyva,Geraldine Conejo-Barboza,Priscila Chaverri,Priscila Chaverri,Max Chavarría +6 more
TL;DR: Qualitative tests showed that the fungal collection presents important cellulolytic activity, which is in line with that of a nineteenth-century art collection in which the biodeterioration by fungi is rampant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tolerance and Biological Removal of Fungicides by Trichoderma Species Isolated From the Endosphere of Wild Rubiaceae Plants
Efraín Escudero-Leyva,Pamela Alfaro-Vargas,Rodrigo Muñoz-Arrieta,Camila Charpentier-Alfaro,María del Milagro Granados-Montero,Katherine S. Valverde-Madrigal,Marta Pérez-Villanueva,Michael Méndez-Rivera,Carlos E. Rodríguez-Rodríguez,Priscila Chaverri,José Aníbal Mora-Villalobos +10 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that attention should be placed when combining certain types of agrochemicals with antagonistic fungi in Integrated Pest and Disease Management strategies or when transitioning to organic agriculture and suggest that endosphere of wild plants could be an attractive guild to find new Trichoderma species with promising bioremediation capabilities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biodeterioration and cellulolytic activity by fungi isolated from a nineteenth-century painting at the National Theatre of Costa Rica
Max Chavarría,Sofía Vieto,Efraín Escudero-Leyva,Roberto Avendaño,Noelia Rechnitzer,Melissa D. Barrantes-Madrigal,Geraldine Conejo-Barboza,Oscar A. Herrera-Sancho,Priscila Chaverri,Max Chavarría +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, a physicochemical and microbiological study of a large format painting on canvas called La Danza was conducted to identify the fungal species that inhabit the artwork and are responsible for the damage observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Richness and metallo-tolerance of cultivable fungi recovered from three high altitude glaciers from Citlaltépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes (Mexico).
Rosa Paulina Calvillo-Medina,Nina Gunde-Cimerman,Efraín Escudero-Leyva,Luis Barba-Escoto,Elisa Irma Fernández-Tellez,Ariadna Andrea Medina-Tellez,Victor Manuel Bautista-de Lucio,Miguel Angel Ramos-López,Juan Campos-Guillén +8 more
TL;DR: To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report on cultivable mycobiota richness and their Cr and Pb tolerance and the results open new research possibilities about fungal diversity and heavy metals myco-remediation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Purpureocillium roseum sp. nov. A new ocular pathogen for humans and mice resistant to antifungals
Rosa Paulina Calvillo-Medina,Diana Gabriela Ponce-Angulo,Tania Raymundo,Carlos Adolfo Müller-Morales,Efraín Escudero-Leyva,Juan Campos Guillén,Victor Manuel Bautista-de Lucio +6 more
TL;DR: Infectious keratitis is the main cause of preventable blindness worldwide, with about 1.5–2.0 million new cases occurring per year.
